From Eastman's Newsletter:
Your Help Is Needed: Save the
Library of Michigan
If you have been reading the news in this newsletter and elsewhere, you
probably already know of the threats to move, reduce, and/or close the
Library of Michigan. Many genealogists have already protested and those
protests are growing louder.
In meetings held during the Federation of Genealogical Societies/
Arkansas Genealogical Society Annual Conference in Little Rock this past
week, the Records Preservation and Access Committee (a joint committee
of the Federation of Genealogical Societies and the National
Genealogical Society) has initiated a petition drive in support of the
Library of Michigan.
Genealogists from within and without Michigan are encouraged to sign the
online petition. You are encouraged to sign this online petition NOW.

This from a cousin in Michigan:
"Has Rev, War of 1812, Civil War etc records, newspapers from MI and some other
places, Federal Census from US and Canada all on Microfilm - plus 1000's of books on
counties, business, marriages etc from US and Canada. I was always hoping to get there to
go through the Canadian marriage books from Quebec. Article says the Senate rejected on
Aug 27th. But it automatically goes into effect by Oct 1, 2009 if the Democratic led
House doesn't reject by Friday.
There are rally's planned, and have been some all ready. According to the article
there are over 5 million pieces dating back to 1828."
"Article is in Sundays Grand Rapids Press, Sec I, page 12 at the bottom. Another
article next to it."
I wonder if a petition is actually going to make it to the right place in time. What we
need is to flood the emails of all Michigan Reps to try and save this valuable resource
for all people, not just Michigan genealogists. For a complete list of names, phone
numbers and email addresses of the Michigan House go to:
