Christine,
Yep, the one I'm refering to is on 67. If you can get directions to the one
you're referring to, I'll check it when I go through
again in August.
Did you Platts have anything to do with the Platt River, etc? I lived in Colorado for 20
yrs and that's a big name out there.
The counties I research in Indiana are: Wayne, Randolph, Jay, Grant, Howard, Madison,
Henry, Blackford, Marion and primarily
Delaware.

You know it has been years since I have been there... I will talk to my mom and dad who
live in Portland and they can give me
directions. I'm not sure were thinking of the same place... Was the cemetery where
you were at on 67? If so that's not the one.
I didn't have to run records down due to 1st hand information from my relatives on
where and what happen to my gg-grandad.
I will try and get directions of where the little cemetery is located...
The family I'm researching for "Platt"
Descendants of Thomas scattered westward, and if your line seems to originate in any of
the following counties, the likelihood of
your
being of
Thomas is high:
OHIO: Licking, Richland, Shelby, Warren, Hamilton, Preble, Williams, Butler
INDIANA: Wayne, Randolph, Jay, Clinton, Tipton, Boone, Tippecanoe
ILLINOIS: McLean, Tazewell, Lee, Knox
MINNESOTA: Beltrami, Saint Louis, Hennepin
MICHIGAN: St Joseph, Van Buren
IOWA: Lee, Van Buren, Delaware
This list is not complete by any means! - pioneering Platts went into Kansas and Nebraska,
the Dakotas, and to the Pacific coast.
I would like to have more info on my gg-grandad Martin Van Buren Platt... I know he is not
buried where it says but what happen to
his
kids... Lillie Vietta Platt and Luther Tejado Platt.... this man died when my grandfather
was 8 years old ...

Christine,
Thank you. Would you be talking about the tiny cemetery setting by the side of the
road at the bend going towards Muncie? I
stopped at that one a few weeks ago on my way to Muncie and noticed there were numerous
obvious burials with no headstones.
If there was no marker, how did you find this relative's grave? That's what
I'm looking for - some complete records. Samuel
and Jane both seem to have disappeared into thin air when they died, even though they
died a number of yrs apart. I know Jane was
living in Portland in 1907, probably with one of her kids. If I get a list of the their
children, is there someone on the list
who
can do a census check for these people?
Also, if I could get a list of the mortuaries in Portland and find where Jane was at
least 'prepared', that might give me a
clue to both burials. I strongly feel that the govt just doesn't have a record of
where they sent him. I say this because I
can't
find Jane too and feel they must be together. Gut feeling, but I try
to pay attention to those. If you or anyone else has any
other suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Outside of holding a seance, I don't
know what to do next! *S* (Wanna come to the
seance???)
Thanks again,
Shirl

There is a small cemetery located in Portland Indiana by the conservation club.
I don't know how far it dates back or if their are any or few grave markers... I
know one relative of mine was burried there and his wife wanted to move him with
the rest of the family but it was not possible due to the use of wooden boxes
etc. In our case it says both of our realtives are buried at green park
cemetery in Portland when actually "HE" is at this little cemetery by the
conservation club. I know there is "No" grave marker at the little cemetery
for
our rlative. (this realtive died June 8, 1884)
Hope this gives you another lead to check out....
