Here's the first of the Civil War Discharges.......
To all whom it may concern
Know ye that John Tieben, a private of Captain John W. Hiestand Company “E”, 53 regiment
of Indiana Infantry Volunteers who was enrolled on the twenty third day of March one
thousand eight hundred and sixty five to serve one year or during tha war is hereby
discharged from the service of the United States this twenty first day of July 1865 at
Louisville Kentucky by reason of G.O. No. 26, Hd Qrs Dept. Army Tenn July 3rd 65. No
objection to his being re-enlisted is known to exist. Said John Tieben was born in
------ in the state of Germany, is 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion,
Gray eyes, brown hair, and by occupation when enrolled, a farmer.
Given at Louisville KY this twenty first day of July, 1865.
