Mr. Norton,
You definitely are not "sticking your nose in our work". I think that
is what this site is all about--too help each other when we can.
Elizabeth Gift Phillips has been a real challenge. I, also believed she
may have died in childbirth with Elias until I found the following
census records. Note: They were copied from two different places. I
have no had a chance to re-verify them. They are a little different.
Census Darke Co. Oh, Twin Twp. pg. 31
Lewis Phillips 37 years old
1 Female 30-40
3 males under 5
2 Males 5 - 10
2 Males 10 - 25
1 Female 5 - 10
1830 Census Dark County, Twin Twp. Ohio from pg 31 of

was taken. These census were begun 1 June 1830.

1 female 5 - 10 ??? (It has since been suggested this might be a
Catherine
3 males under 5 Jonas, Mordicai, & Elias
Notice on the census below that David Phillips lists his mother as being
born in Tenn. However, other sources say N.C.
1880 JEFFERSON TWP, JAY CO. IND Soundex FHL 1254287
Phillips, David 58 OH Father born Tenn/Mother Born Tenn
Hanna 56 KY Father born VA/ Mother born KY
Lewis 33 OH Father born OH Mother born KY
James 26 IN OH KY
Mary 23 IN Same as Two above
George C. 20 IN Farming--same as above
Levi A. 18 IN At Home--same as above
Willie 3 Grandson IN Father b. IN/ Mother b. IN
I surely would like to straighten this family out. Would you be willing
to share what more you have?

Subject: Phillips, Lewis & Elizabeth Gift
Hi, Phillips Researchers
Don't want to stick my nose in your work, but my grandmother was
Isabelle
Phillips, She was married to William W. Norton. Isabelle is the
daughter of
Jonas & Mary J. (Fleagle) Phillips. Jonas Phillips was the son of
Lewis &
Elizabeth (Gift) Phillips. Lewis was born in Tenn. & Elizabeth in
Virginia.
When Elizabeth died in 1830, (may have been in child birth of Elias
Phillips) Lewis married Christina "Tena" Robbins three years later in
Drake, County Ohio in 1833, they had one son Isaac Phillips who was
born in
Ohio in 1837. Sorry to much information.
R. D. Norton
