Even though the state began to request that deaths be recorded, starting
about 1890, there was very poor complience until the turn of the century or
later. Births were not even consistently recorded until 1920.
Have you looked for funeral home records? The information found there for
that time period was rather sketchy, however, they usually kept track of who
they buried. Another good source is church records, particulary the
Catholic and Lutheran churches.
