First Vote For President -- Penn Township Ahead....
At the late election 30 young men of Danville, who had never before
voted for President, met at the sanctum of the Ledger office and marched to
the polls, bearing a banner inscribed "Our first vote for President --
Lincoln and Hamlin." -- Indianapolis Daily Journal 12th.
We can beat that in Jay. In Penn township in this county, which
gave Lincoln 178 majority; there were fifty who cast their first vote for
President, and who voted for "Lincoln and Hamlin." About 40 of them marched
to the polls together; most of them are young men. Our correspondent at
Camden, who sends the names says, "Who can beat it? Just report up and old
Penn will try again."
