Here's the next one. The Portland Commercial, Thur., Sept. 9, 1886.
Treasure - David F. Hoover was born in Jackson township, July 25, 1841. His parents moved
to Penn township in 1850, and from there to Portland, in 1854, his father having purchased
the Portland Journal, which he continued to publish until after the election of 1856.
Here it was that young David obtained the greater portion of his education - performing
all the varied and complex duties of the office, from "devil" to writing
"heavy" editorials. The practical knowledge he there obtained of business and
human nature, has been worth more to him than drilling for years in the text books, and no
doubt, in a great measure, accounts for his popularity with all classes of people, in all
parties, wherever he is known. In 1856, his parents again moved to Penn township and
engaged in farming. They were members of the Friends church, and David was given thorough
training in honesty and morals, which have ever been his "guiding star" through
life. He remained a citizen of the townsh!
ip up to within about two years since, when he moved to Wabash township, to engage in
running a saw mill. He is just the kind of man to handle the funds of the county, and in
his hands every dollar will be perfectly safe and properly accounted for.
