Hi all. As most of you know, I am currently transcribing obituaries, marriage notices,
and other news items from the old Jay county newspapers. I have currently transcibed 1871
thur 1873. I thought I would post this death by drowning to the list.
The Democrat, Thur., July, 10, 1873
Drowned - Adam Downour, in the Sallamonie, on last Friday, July 4. His body was not found
until Sabbath about noon, a distance of 50 rods from where he went down. The deceased was
attempting to for the stream on horseback. He made a desperate struggle for life, but of
no avail. It is supposed the animal could not swim with a rider. Mr. Downour was twenty
years of age, and was to have been married in a few weeks. He leaves a large circle of
relatives and friends to mourn his early death.
