Subject: [INJAY] Bryant High School, Wesleyan Church and Gas Stations
Does anyone have a picture of the Bryant High School? I would like a copy of
it. Plus, does anyone have pictures of the gas stations of Bryant? I have two
gas stations narrowed down to be my grandfather's. A friend told me that it is
the one now abandoned on the nw corner of US27 and IN18, and that there was a
barber's chair in it for some reason. I know the reason, if this is the right
place, as Grandpa's father (Jesse) was a barber in Bryant. But my Uncle Steve
says that Grandpa's gas station was a small building, only big enough for a few
quarts of oil and a cash registar on the se corner of Elm St and US27. That
building is gone. Can anyone help me with more info on this?
My grandfather was Robert Madison Bailey. He lived on the west side of Bryant
on Elm Street with his family, and his mother lived in the house next to it
according to Steve.
I do have pictures of the gas station on US27 and IN18, of it's current
condition, anyone have pictures of it in it's glory days? or the one on Elm and
US27???
I remember the Bryant Wesleyan Church before the add ons. I was married there,
so was my mother, Grandpa and Grandma and all the Baileys were active members.
I read a story the other day that John C. Bailey, who was the first of my family
to come, donated the lumber from his farm/woods, to build the orignal church
structure, that was torn down prior to 1990 I think. I remember the dark wood,
and dark walls from childhood visits with the grands. Does anyone have pictures
of the old church before the add ons or even pictures from inside.
I also understand the my Great Grandmother was recognized for being a Sunday
School Teacher for a very long time, but don't have any paperwork on that. She
was Gertrude Bailey.
Does anyone have access to the Church History, Papers? Andrea
