Here's another of the election biographies. Setp. 9, 1886, The Portland Commercial.
Commissioner - North District - Washington Grimes, the candidate for Commissioner in the
north district, was born in Maryland in 1831. His parents moved to Preble county, Ohio,
in 1838, and to Jay county in 1843. They settled in Jackson township, in the midst of a
dense native forest. Here, Washington performed the duties common with farmer boys, in
the first settling of the country. In fact, he has grown up in Jay county, and been
closely identified with all her interests in the great improvements and developments that
have been made. He has always lived on the farm where his parents settled, and today owns
one among the best farms in the county. He has contributed liberally to the building up
of churches in his neighborhood, and ever done his duty as a good citizen. He will make a
careful, honest, impartial, and economical Commissioner, and is just the man to reduce the
mountain of taxation that is now piled upon the shoulders of the taxpayers.
