Phyllis,
Thank you. Oddly, my Samuel named one son Robert I. (for Irwin). Robert I. named his
son Earl. Earl, in turn, named his son
Robert. Thus it went: Samuel, Robert, Earl, Robert.
I wonder, since my Samuel showed up in Indiana around 1820-24, as a young unmarried
man, if he himself wasn't named after an
uncle or father or grandfather - perhaps your Samuel (and Robert)?? If you have any
vitals on your Samuel and Robert, maybe we
could make a connection.
Also, if you have photos of either of them, we might compare them. I have none of
Samuel, that I'm aware of, but many of Robert
I. from youth to his senior years. Perhaps the similarities would be strong enough as to
be unable to 'deny' each other! I can
also send you photos to compare.
I'm assuming my young Samuel didn't travel to the 'wilds' alone but
maybe traveled with brother/uncle/father or what have you.
That much would tie in with yours in logic at least. I can tell you this - Samuel was a
multi-talented man. He was educated for
his day, taught school, was a tin smith, etc.
And, BTW, I have other family (surnames) members in Mt Zion cemetery but unsure yet if
those Pattersons are mine. There were
two prominent Patterson families in Muncie in her early days and, so far, they haven't
claimed connections. I, however, have this
strong sneaking suspicion that they are indeed connected and the two branches have just
lost touch over the decades. That would
include the ones in Jay County. As I recall some of the Jay Cnty Pattersons claim the
others in Muncie but not mine. And yet we've
all hit a brick wall at about the same time! Odd?
I think a good starting point would be scanned photos if you have any. Also some
vitals on your Samuel and Robert. Do you know
if any of them connected back to VT? Army records show VT as Samuel's birthplace.
Hoping.....
Shirl

Hi, I have a Patterson line too. I am through Robert Styner Patterson and
his wife, Mariah Snyder Patterson. who came from the Juniata Co., Pa. area
in the early 1800's to Licking County, Ohio. They both died in Hartford
Twp., of Licking County. I don't believe that Robert had a brother named
Samuel. However, I seem to remember that there was a Samuel Patterson
living in another part of Licking Co. when Robt and wife lived there. I saw
their picture in a history and the Samuel Patterson looks just like Robert
Patterson.
Is the Samuel Patterson you are inquiring about, from Jay County, Indiana.
I am not directly related to any of the Jay Co., In. Patterson's. There
are some Patterson's buried in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. I am currently
working on that cemetery. let me know if any of this fits.

Samuel R. PATTERSON & Jane TURNER Patterson are my gg grandparents.
Their children were as follows:

Robert I. Patterson - married Mary E. LEFAVOUR (my great grandparents)
Agnes Patterson - married Elam OSBORNE
Electa Patterson - married E.P. THORNBURG
Charles T. PATTERSON - died at 28 - unknown if there was a marriage or
children.
Sarah E. Patterson - married J. P. EDWARDS

I'd like to make contact with anyone with any of these people in their

Thanks,
