Re Hillside Quaker Cem. - Is there a compiled history of this cem., date of
founding, oldest graves. and origin of those people?
I> Hillside Quaker Cemetery in Penn Township, just on the edge of Pennville.
All total we took over 1,200 photographs! What a chore this one was!
This
cemetery is mostly very old stones, but has some more recent ones. If you
had ancestors who died near Pennville, this would have been a likely spot for
them to be buried.
I should have the cd ready for this one sometime next week. It will take me
a few days to name all of the files. Anyone interested in this cd (or any
of the other cemetery cd's) can email me at rexwb(a)insightbb.com
My ulterior motive for asking is that I have been on the backward trail of
Obediah
Hastings c 1750/1820-30,& of late, wondering if he is among some of the
Hastings families who either came over with Wm. Penn or followed cousins who
did.
Or is he among the many Hastings families in New England in 1600s? And might
some of them have moved south when Wm. Penn's came in? My Obediah's grandson
Waitman was Methodist in early life in s.w. corner of Sussex Co., DE.
according to some records, Quakers had 'thinned out' there (only one family
holding
weekly 'meeting' in their home) although more prevalent in counties of Kent and
Newcastle to the north in the "three lower counties of PA".
Perhaps those familiar with Quaker migrations have to answers?
