Bob,
The McCarty's I have researched were Baptists. Now there were other lines in
Indiana so they could of been quaker. I know I have been told that I may be
able to find McCarty's in quaker data. IM not sure because they were quaker
or that the quaker's just kept good records as the later day saints do now. I
have read of some Catholic McCarty's as well in the book The McCarthys in
Early American History by
Michael J. O'Brien, Dodd, Mead Co., New York, 1921
Kathy (Burden) Shaffer
I would appreciate a lookup for Mary McCarty in the Jay County 1870 Census.
She was born in 1822 in Ohio so she would of been abt 48 yrs old in 1870.
She may be listed with Josephine and Mary Ellen
Kathy (Burden) Shaffer
Would appreciate an 1870 census lookup for husband & wife namd William &
Mary C. WILEY. William should be about 38 yrs old I believe and Mary
about 21.
Many thanks.

Thurmon, You might want to add to the confusion (my specialty!) by
mentioning Isabell Sackett (older sister of Sarah) married Carter B. Tindall
11/18/1858 Adams Co., IN. The marriage record is in the Admas Co., IN
marriage records online at FTM. This family is in the 1860-1880 Blue Creek
Twp., Adams Co., IN census.
I haven't been able to find Jacob Horner James & Sarah Sackett in the census
records of Adams Co. I will try the Randolph Co census. Cindy

family give Sarah's husband as S. H. Tindall of Portland, Jay Co., IN.
Cindy's sources give Sarah's husband as Jacob Horner James of Randolf Co.,

> Mothe's family had no dates for the birth of the Tindall children while
the information for the James children show their births ranging from Abt.
1866/67 to May 15, 1881. Because of the fact that the last James child
would have been born when Sarah was 41 years old I had suggested to Cindy
that maybe Sarah had been married twice, to S. H. Tindall and then to Jacob
Horner James. However, after I reviewed the infromation from my mother's
family I am puzzled.

Dear Vanessa,
There is another John Frederick Miller from, or near, Hanover, York
County that I think may be related to your ancestors. Maria (Polly)
Trone was born about 1790 and married George Michael Bair, born about
1790. They had at least three sons including Samuel Trone Bair. George
Michael died around 1815 and Maria (Polly) remarried John Frederick
Miller. They had at least six children and I believe remained in York
County for the remainder of their lives. One of their sons was Emanuel
Miller.
Samuel Trone Bair and Emanuel Miller (and probably several others) moved
to Jay County, PA, around 1850 and homesteaded there.
I am pretty sure that my ancestors and yours are related. I note in
particular that the cemetery at Bair's Meeting House has many Trone
graves.
I would certainly appreciate any comments or information that you might
have regarding these folks.
Sincerely,
George L. Bair
(ggg-grandson of George Michael Bair)

Hi Sarah,
Do you have the information from the History of Jay County, Indiana Volume
II published in 1922 by the Historical Publishing Company, by M.T. Jay, M.D.
pages 292-293? I have the book as my grandfather and great grandfather
are also from Jay County. In summary, Mrs. Lida (Burk) Shimp was born in
Wabash township in the neighboring county of Adams and lived there until she
was ten years of age when she came with her parents, William and Matilda
(Hall) Burk, down into Jay county, the family locating in Wabash township
here, where she completed her schooling in the New Corydon schools, grew to
womanhood and was married. William Burk was born in Pennsylvania and grew
to manhood and was married, shortly afterward coming to Indiana and buying a
forty-acre farm in Wabash township, this county. On that place his first
wife, Phoebe Gordon, died, leaving three children. Mr. Burk presently
married Matilda Hall, who was born in this county, a member of one of the
pioneer families of Noble township, and not long afterward sold his place in
this county and bought a farm of 144 acres in Adams county, where he
established his home. In 1898 he sold that farm and moved to Geneva, Ind.,
where he and his wife spent their last days. They were the parents of six
children, all of whom are living save Harper, who died at the age of
twenty-one years, and Alpha, who died at the age of thirteen years, the
others besides Mrs. Shimp being Martin Burk, who is now clerk of his home
county in Colorado; Miss Grace E. Burk, a teacher in the Mason City high
school, and Ralph Burk, of Colorado. As noted above, by his first wife
(Phoebe Gordon) William Burk had three children, all of whom are living,
namely: James G. Burk, of Montana; Hiram Burk, of Missouri, and Mrs.
Elizabeth Asby, of Geneva, Ind., Hope this helps. Tammy

Thank you Lorraine, that lets me know that they were there and I can add the census to my resources.
The reason I am looking for this obituary, is that anyone that is researching Abigail (Stults) Johnson knows that there has been a big controversy as to who her parents are. Either Peter or Henry, everyone seems to have a different opinion.
I was hoping that someone that lives in Portland could look this obit up. Since Charity is Peter's daughter and died before Abigail, if it names Abigail as Charity's sister then that should be our proof she is Peter's daughter.
