We need help! We are looking for parents and or family ties to Philip Owens. Here is
what we know.
Philip Owens was born 17 August 1829 in Surry County, North Carolina according to his
Civil War Pension File.
He married Lucinda (Lucy) Blevins on the 24 August 1848 in Jackson County. They are found
on the 1850 census, living in Hamilton Township, Jackson County. One daughter Poliana was
with them. Poliana Elizabeth was born in 1849, daughter Matilda born about 1850 (married
George Washington Isaacs), daughter Maryetta born 11 November 1854 ( married John William
Alexander), daughter Nancy born about 1856. Lucinda died sometime after Nancy was born,
exactly when is yet to be found. Philip marries Patience Blevins, Lucinda's younger
sister, on 21 January 1859. They are found on the 1860 Hamilton Township, Jackson County
census. Philip and Patience had 3 children of their own, Sarah born 1860, (married John
Blevins), Charles born about 1862,(married Phoebe Isaacs), and David born 11 Oct 1871,
(married Mary Beck).
Philip Owens and most of his children moved to Dallas County, Missouri after the 1880
census was taken as he is still in Jackson County in that census. He is missing in the
1870 census and has yet to be found.
We have one descendant from Matilda, one from Maryetta, two from Sarah, one from Charles,
and one from David. We have no idea what happened to Poliana Elizabeth or Nancy.
Does any one in Jackson County have any information on who Philip Owens parents were or
who he might have been related to?? We can sure use some help here.
Thank You
Debbie Sumner
