James
In the eicste06 report of Harro Eichhorn's disertation at Oldenberg University
The name is spelled Top(p)y, or Top(p)i,
Udo Thoener's Auslander report spells the name Toppie.
Both reports are in German and list the emigrees and dates (if known) to the USA.

Hello Tony, I have been just researching the Toppe's for the obvious reasons; however,
I would also like to know more about the history of the church itself and the people
around that history, I have been in commuinication with the Vicar and he is suppose to be
sending me some information from the archives of the church. From my understanding,
Lutheren's keep good records. The first,"Toppe",from my lineage to come to
the states is buired there; however,he spelled his name on the tombstone,
"Toppie", and on the 1860 census it was spelled, "Topee". It is
pronounced the way that it is spelled here. However, on the 1880 census it was spelled,
"Toppe", like we spell it today, and everybody mispronounces it. His son William
which is my Great, great grandfather spelled his name on the gravestone the way we do
today as well, which leads me to believe that the way we spell it today was the way it was
spelled in Germany. Those first two spellings of my name seems to be spelled so that
!
English speaking people would pronounce it correctly. Do you happen to know anything about
that sort of stuff with name spellings. Thank you, James Toppe. What have you been
researching?
