Mike:
I know for the records I need are back at 1876 & 77. There are no records for
that
time period, or that's what I was told. I've tried every angle. The only thing
I did
find was newspaper articles. I've tried to find birth and death certificates of
my
gggrandfather's children. But there are no records. That's probably why I said
what
I said.
Now after 1880 I was told there are health records kept at the Health Dept. in
Jack-
son Co., whom ever asked may be pretty lucky. But for my research I've hit a
brick
wall, plus there are no gravestones, or cemetery records for these children.
Their mother died in 1876, and the children died in a housefire in 1877, while
their
father was away.
My question is, where is their mother buried, and did they bury the children,
and
if so, where? I've looked high and lo, and there is no answer, unless someone
has
a Christmas miracle for me. If they weren't buried, I'd like to know the exact
location of this home, and put flowers where they died.
Two years ago, when my cousin and I were researching at the Brownstown library,
we'd asked someone about them. They called in a local genealogist because she
knew something about this, and told us for many, many years, wondered why no-
one claimed these children.
I'd explained to her, we'd been up there looking for them, but knowone knew any-
thing about them, until that day. She went right to the book, and showed us a
copy
of the newspaper article, that told a short story about them. I'd like to learn
more
about this incident, if it ever was under investigation, etc. The surname of
the
children is "BESS" according to the article, but it is a misprint, cause it is
actually
"BEST". So if there are stones, they could read either, or may be
non-existant.
Well have to go for now, good luck researching and everyone have a GREAT
CHRISTMAS!!!!

The mortality records for Jackson County, Indiana are kept at the
Jackson
County Health Department located at 207 N. Pine Street in Seymour, Indiana,
not Brownstown. The people at the health department there are really great.
They have been a lot of help to me.
