Greetings Susan, Maxine, & INJACKSO-Lers,
To try to answer the questions in the two postings repeated below:
My list of Jackson County newspapers on microfilm at the library in
Seymour is at
<
http://users.hsonline.net/csellers/history/histnwsp.htm>. The
library does not lend its microfilm.
Approximately the same Jackson County newspapers as in Seymour are on
microfilm at the Indiana State Library
<
http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/> where the main Web page lists many
other collections, indexes and databases of use to family historians
working on Indiana. The address of the Indiana Division is
<
http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/WWW/INDIANA/INMENU.HTML>.
You can view a list of the ISL newspapers on microfilm at
<
http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/WWW/INDIANA/NEWSPAPER/HOLD.HTML>
and of Jackson County newspapers in particular at
<
http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/WWW/INDIANA/NEWSPAPER/JACK.HTML>.
The ISL handout for interlibrary loan of newspapers, revised 3/99,
notes that microfilm constantly is being added to the collection and
inquiries should be made if a title does not appear in a list of
holdings.
It also says "Microfilm of newspapers will be loaned to public and
university libraries & to other libraries at the discretion of the
Division Head. Requests should be placed on standard interlibrary
loan forms or sent via OCLC providing the same information." The
interlibrary loan or reference staff at your local library should be
able to help you with the request.
The ISL asks that the request provide specific information: town or
city & name of newspaper & dates. Unless specific reels are
requested, the library staff selects the one it believes most closely
matches the request.
I've always had very timely service from the state library & recommend
its services highly.
(Not to confuse things, but in case it helps someone, the National
Union List of Newspapers on microfilm available thru ILL for all
states also is linked from my main history page
<
http://users.hsonline.net/csellers/history/history.htm#sources>.)
Hope this clears it up. Happy hunting!

Hello Charlotte and the list.
I took a look at your list of newspapers. I was wondering if the Indiana
State Archives has the papers on film and could be ordered through the
library loan program. Here in Illinois the old newspapers can be ordered
that way. Also, the Southern Illinois University has old newspapers on
film.
