In trying to figure out the date of death of a great great uncle I have photocopied a page
at Salt Lake City from one of my research trips down there from Jackson County, Indiana
Obituaries 1881 to 1885 by Jonette Karen Johnson but there is actually no reference as to
"a date" and I will quote from the item ~ QUOTE
WAUGHTEL, Abraham--Salem news-Abraham Waughtel, aged about 60 yrs., was killed at the 1st
bridge W of town, last Fri., by the south-bound express. Burial in Crown Hill cemetery.
He leaves no family. Deceased was a soldier in the Mexican war & served 5 yrs in the
late war. (Dec. 25--B) ~ UNQUOTE
Can anyone help me as to the actual date/year of death for him. Also does this mean that
he served in both the Mexican War and the Civil War or that he served in the Mexican War
for 5 years which seems unlikely due to the papers I have on his Mexican War service but I
may not have the entire file either.
I do believe Abraham to be a brother to Jane WAUGHTELL who was married (2) to John SUMMA
and they resided in Jackson County for many years according to the early census records.
Abraham & Jane were siblings of my great great grandfather James (wife Nancy
KEIL/KEEL) WAUGHTEL.
Thank you for any help that anyone can give me on this.
Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington)
