Message Board Post:
This is an old posting, so you've probably found this information by now, especially
since the family of Jonathan Jackson Robinson and Elsie (or Eliza) Ross has been pretty
thoroughly documented by someone on
familysearch.org.
I was wondering whether you'd found any more information about Jonathan Robinson's
parents. You mention seeing a probate record for George Robertson in Jackson Co., which
lists a son Jonathan. Have you been able to follow this up?
Another possibility that I've found is William Robinson listed in Clark Co., Indiana
in 1820, living in Charlestown tp. He disappears after this, probably dying before 1830,
but most of his family seem to have moved to Jackson Co. before 1840.
In the 1840 and 1850 Jackson Co. censuses Jonathan Robinson is living next door to a
likely sister, Harriet (Robinson) Sweeney (who married James Sweeney in Clark Co. in the
1820's), and a possible brother, William Robinson. I think it likely that Harriet is
sister to Elizabeth (Robinson) Anderson and Sarah (Robinson) Crum, both married in Clark
Co. in the 1820's, and living nearby in Washington tp., Jackson Co., Indiana in 1850.
These two are pretty certainly daughters of William Robinson. William is listed in 1820 as
having two sons under 10, his only boys left at home, and this fits Jonathan's and
William's ages. With the death of their parents, they would likely have lived with an
older brother or sister (in this case Harriet).
I'd love to hear from anyone with any information on this family.
