Greetings,
Thought since y'all mentioned the new Website, I'd send you a bit of
information about it (even though we're still trying to get some things
squared away). Hope you will send us comments, suggestions, errors. Good
searching!

Jackson County History
Website Now Online
Jackson County, Indiana, history is featured on a new Website --
jacksoncountyhistory.org -- that includes a history book, two directories
and several dozen pictures.
The digital archive for local history material was started through a
partnership of five Jackson County organizations with a grant from the
Institute of Museums and Library Services under provisions of the Library
Services and Technology Act, administered by the Indiana State Library.
Development of the Website is ongoing.
The History of Jackson County, Indiana, first published by Brant and Fuller
in 1886, includes in its digital form images for all pages in the book and
searchable text for the Jackson County and biographical pages. Some editing
remains to be done on the book for which preliminary editing was done by
Doris Woods of Medora, one of three temporary workers on the project. Jason
Boyer, technology specialist at Jackson County Public Library in Seymour,
developed search and display features for the Website.
Others working on the project were Marilyn Elkins of Commiskey and Carol
Fish of Norman. Project coordinator is Charlotte Sellers, local and family
history specialist at JCPL. The partner organizations in addition to JCPL
are the Jackson County Genealogical Society, the Jackson County Historical
Society, Brownstown Public library and Seymour Heritage Foundation.
The archive includes images from the 1900 Seymour City and Business
Directory and the 1915 Directory of the City of Seymour, Indiana : Towns of
Brownstown, Crothersville and Medora and of All Townships in Jackson County,
Indiana : Together with a Business and Street Directory in the City of
Seymour, Ind.
Individuals interested in the history of the county loaned photographs,
post cards and other documents to be copied for digital display on the
Website. Several thousand images now are in digital form and will be
cataloged and placed online as time allows. Images already online include
businesses, street scenes, transportation, and recreation, among others.
