The information of this message and conjunctive threads correlated with my Rockcastle
County KY Durham file leads me to the following conclusions. Fannie Bell Durham, born 2
Nov 1887; and Frances Durham, born 9 Sep 1890 were daughters of John Harden Durham, 1862
Rockcastle County KY Mary E Beeker abt 1864 IN. They married 21 May 1885 in Jackson
County IN. At this point the trace gets a little fuzzy; John Harden and Mary E must have
divorced shortly after the birth of Frances, because on 20 May 1893 in Jackson County IN,
Mary E Beeker Durham marries Gasper Weddle. They have at least two children, Clyde and
Thomas H born 1896. On 15 Mar 1898 Gasper Weddle dies. I have no further information
for Mar E that is not contained in this thread. John Harden Durham remarries to Annabelle
Waterbury at unknown date. John Harden Durham dies 2 Sep 1943 Jackson County and
Annabelle on 22 Jan 1845 Jackson County.
Fannie Bell Durham married James Henry Lawson on 15 May 1911 Jackson County, IN. Frances
Durham married John L Durham on 3 Nov 1911 Jackson County. John L Durham born 21 Jan 1889
is my family connection. He and Frances had at least 3 children: Medford T born 1912;
Irvin Eugene born 1914 and John Logan born 1916. As noted in this thread, John L was
killed in 1915 prior to the birth of John Logan. John L was son of John Hardin Durham,
1842 - 1926, and his second wife, Eliza Ellen Trueblood, 1858 - 1920. They married 15 Oct
1877 in Jackson County. Both were born and died Indiana. John Hardin Durham's
parents were Joseph Durham Unknown wife. Here is where I'm hoping to get some help.
Joseph Durham was born 15 Apr 1818 Madison County KY and the family apparently moved to
Rockcastle County KY (adjoining county) shortly after his birth. He was the sixth child
of a family of 10, most of who remained in the area. Census data for John Hardin Durham
indicated both parent!
s were born KY, if so; he must have married and moved to Indiana in 1836 or 1837. Their
first child, Julia Ann Durham was born Indiana 12 Jan 1838, I've found no data to
indicate the county of the birth. John Hardin Durham is the second child, born 18 Jan
1842 (maybe Morgan County IN?) and Mary A Durham born 1848 Indiana is the last child I can
connect to this couple. Both Julia Ann and Mary A moved to Rockcastle County KY and
married; Julia Ann married there in 1857. John Hardin Durham appears to have lived most
of his life in Jackson County IN, though after the death of his first wife in 1876 and
marriage to Eliza Ellen in 1877, he must have lived in Casey County, KY for 3 or 4 years.
For the parents I can only speculate that Joseph Durham's first wife and he had
returned to Rockcastle County KY by 1861. There he married my g g/m, Matilda Mahaffey
Rector, widow of Phillip Rector on 17 Mar 1863. Joseph and Matilda had 5 children, the
youngest Joseph Newman Durh!
am born 1871 was my grandfather. Joseph Durham born 1818 died 27 Dec
1874 Rockcastle County and is buried Walnut Grove Cemetery on the bank of the Rockcastle
River.
