James T. Johnson came from Hawkins County, Tennessee to Jackson County in
1849 following in the footsteps of his Goen in-laws, who settled in both
Jackson and Washington Counties. His father-in-law, William Goen, and
sister-in-law, Malinda Goen (who is listed as Idiotic) were living with him
in 1850 (per Census). James and his family settled in the Carr Township
area and are noted there in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Census. His in-laws
first started moving to the area in 1831, and was wondering if my James
Johnson made trips to Jackson County to purchase land before actually moving
his family there (or had land purchased on his behalf by family/in-law
members).
Would like to prove (or disprove) relationship to the James Johnson and/or
James Johnson Jr. who is noted in the following land transactions
(Certificates deposited in the General Land Office of the United States at
Jeffersonville, for the following purchases of public lands):
15 December 1831 - 80 acres in east half of the northeast quarter of section
one in township four north, of range four east by James Johnson of Jackson
County, Indiana.
21 September 1835 - 40 acres in northwest quarter of the southeast quarter
of section one in township four north, of range four east by James Johnson
of Jackson County, Indiana.
15 August 1838 - 41.67 acres in southwest quarter of the northeast quarter
of section one in township four north, of range four east by James Johnson
Junior of Jackson County, Indiana.
1 July 1852 - 40 acres in southwest quarter of the northeast quarter of
section one in township four north, of range four east by James Johnson of
Jackson County, Indiana.
