Then why isn't it on the County map? >>
To find a link to various maps of anywhere in the continental US try this
address
http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html
(or here is a quick link for those of you who prefer) <A
HREF="http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/">USGS Mapping Information: Geographic
Names In...</A>
---I use it over and over to locate places that may not be large enough to
appear on maps, as well as things like cemeteries, springs, lakes etc that
get mentioned in old records.
When I checked on Clear Spring, I went to the webpage, typed in "Clear
Spring" pulled doen "Indiana" in the state category and typed in
"Jackson" in
the county space---I left the rest blank...I got two "possibles" --a
populated place and a stream---I chose the populated place and found 4
different types of maps to view---a topo, a photgraph, a driving directions
map and I didn't check the other to see what it was--probably a section of a
county map....
I couldn't do genealogy in unfamiliar places as well without this map
address! Hope this helps someone else too.
