Margaret:
You have two possible ways to get a full copy of the original record of
your William Reynolds probate. One is to go to <familysearch.com> then go
through the link to the library catalog. Fill in the boxes . . . . I think
Jackson and Indiana would be what you'd want. . . . . this will take you to
a page listing various categories. Click on "court" "probate" and
then you
will see a page with all the books and microfilm that are available through
the Salt Lake City Library.
You know the date - so see if they have the probate records (not just the
Order Book) for the date of interest. Order the microfilm to come to your
closest FHC where you can look at it. This would be the least expensive
way. Assuming, of course, that the records have been microfilmed!
The other way to get the record is to first phone Jackson County Court
House to find out what their policy and pricing is for having them
photocopy the record for you. If they are short staffed (and most
government offices are these days) it could take a while to get the copy.
Costs vary widely from County to County across the country.
But the problem is that probate records are almost never just one page on
one day. First there is appointment of the administrator. Then there is
inventory followed by sale of the estate. Finally there is the final
settlement and disbursement of the estate. Sometimes it is all taken care
of within a few months or a year. Other times (especially if there are any
family feuds going on) it can drag on for years. So you would probably want
to look at the index to probate (again, not just the order book) to see how
many entries there are for your William Reynolds.
Good luck.
