Monday James GILLEN bought a pair of mules of W. P. HOLLAND for which he
paid $2.50. .. Tuesday George HOLMES, candidate for Sheriff, was here
shaking hands with the people. .. Word has just reached here of the death
of Robert LUTES, of Washington county, but formerly of this place. .. The
two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. HAILEY's died Wednesday. Burial
Thursday at Haileysburg, Jackson county. .. Moses B. LEE, W. J. DIXON and
John SMITH were at Bedford Wednesday. .. Thomas BAYNE, of Greencastle,
Ind., the owner of the saw mill here, was here Wednesday looking after
his interests. Mr. MITCHELL, the man who runs the business here for him,
is a business young man and hustler. .. Mrs. S. P. JONES, of the mill
here, went to Indianapolis Saturday p.m. .. Richard COOTS, of Orleans,
Orange county, was visiting his brother, Hugh COATS, here Saturday. (*One
place says Coots the other Coats.) .. M. B. LEE was at Tunnelton on
political business. .. The Commissioner's sale of land of the late Mrs.
Mary M. DIXON just over in Jackson county, one half mile east of here,
Friday, sold for $2,800. H. S., W. T., F. S. and J. C. DIXON's being the
purchasers. The land is in the river bottom. .. The Primary election
came off all right Saturday. .. A very quiet little wedding took place at
2:30 p.m. at Eld. Elisha LEE's Sunday, in which the contracting parties
were: Miss Amanda BENNETT and Ishmael T. LEE, both of Sparksville,
Jackson county, Eld. Elisha LEE officiating. Miss BENNETT is the
youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James BENNETT and is highly respected
by all who know her. Mr. LEE is the son of A. J. LEE, who died at
Sparksville some four weeks ago. Mr. LEE is postmaster at Sparksville.
.. Vincent WILLIAMS who was born and raised in this township but has been
in Iowa 28 yeas, is here visiting his many relatives and old
acquaintances.
