Message Board Post:
Thanks for your response. Did you have any additional information on William Lett, the son
of John H Lett and Zerelda Ann Rnadall?
I actually hoped to keep this thread focused on William LETT; however, there are some
additions/corrections that I see to the information you have posted, and I would like to
take a second to show where my research varies from your post. I have much in the way of
additional information on these folks. If you have any additional information, I would
love to share data!
(As a quick side note, I prefer my given name to be spelled "Sherri")
I have preserved your format of working from John H Lett back to his ancestors, but I am
removing the source code from your work. Please contact me if you need the sources that
differ from your info. Most are taken from deeds, wills, obituaries, and other primary
source documents.
Ancestors of John H. Lett
Generation No. 1
1. John H. LETT, born 15 Jan 1819 in IN; died 22 Jul 1880 in Seymour, Jackson, IN.
He was the son of Isham LETT and Elizabeth WELLS.
John H Lett married (1) Zerelda Ann Randall 04 Dec 1842 in Paris, Jennings Co., IN. She
was born 11 Jan 1824 in IN. She was the daughter of John Randall and Frances
"Franny" GLOVER.
Generation No. 2
2. Isham LETT, born c1789-1791; died 1838 Jennings county IN; coffin paid for by Balaam
Lett (copy of receipt).
He was the son of Daniel LETT and UNKNOWN SPOUSE.
[ As a note here--the wife's name is unknown, the "Sinta" is supposed to be
a nickname for Cynthia, not a surname. There is no documentation anywhere of his
wife's name of which I am aware-If you have found this, please share!
One person admitted to guessing that her name was Cynthia Osborn based on the fact that an
unrelated deed was filed after the Kinman-Lett deed of 1801 in Wilkes county Georgia where
a Rebecca Osborn deeded slaves to her children, which included a Cynthia. She chose that
"because it was the next deed" in the records, even though it named that
daughter was Cynthia Osborn, rather than Lett. That deed was made some months after the
deed to the children of Daniel Lett, and does not mention the Lett family in any way.
Another early researcher decided that the wife was name Cynthia because one of Randall
Lett's daughters was named Cynthia (nicknamed "Shoutin' Sinda")-in
actuality Randall's daughter name may have been Lucinda.
If I had to "guess" what the wife's name was, based solely on female names
in the Lett family, I would guess it was Elizabeth or Sarah-the two most common given
names of female Lett children.]

GENERATION 3: Daniel LETT and UNKNOWN WIFE
See links below for information from deeds, wills etc on this man.
An 1801 deed names the children of Daniel Lett as: Isham Lett, Patsey Lett, David Lett,
Zilphey Lett, & Ballaam Lett, in that order. I believe the other people named in your
list may have been placed there by early researchers who found those individuals in the
area and decided they "must" be related:
Children of Daniel LETT and UNKNOWN SPOUSE:
1) Isham, Lett born c1789-1791, GA; married 24 Jan 1811 in Harrison co KY to Elizabeth
Wells

The entire section below is suspect, and based on undocumented information.
Generation No. 4
8. James Isham Lett13, born 1747 in Edgecomb, NC; died 20 Nov 1838 in Spartanburg,
Guilford, SC. He
was the son of John Lett. He married 9. Martha Patty Whitfield 14 Feb 1767.
9. Martha Patty Whitfield, born 1748 in Guilford Co., NC.
Children of James Lett and Martha Whitfield are:
i. Mahala Lett
ii. Sarah Lett
iii. John Hardaway Lett
4 iv. DANIEL LETT, born 1766 in Bertie Co., NC; died 1820 in Owen Co., KY; married CYNTHIA
MARY SINTA.
While it is useful to retain the information above as a starting point for research, it
probably should not be relied upon to be accurate. See the Lett family genforum for
additional information. I am eager to see documentation on any and all of these
people/facts. If we can make a breakthrough with the relationships among the Georgia Lett
family, we can potentially unlock the family back to it's VA roots.
May I suggest these entries as starting points:

greatgrandfather.

If I had to speculate about the lineage before Daniel LETT of Wilkes county, GA I would
say it goes something like:
Daniel LETT of Wilkes county GA (died there & wife remarried)
|
James --OR--Isham Lett of Wilkes & Greene county GA (possible sibling to Reuben LETT)
|
Isham LETT or Edgecomb county, NC
|
John LETT of Granville co NC
|
John LETT and wife Elizabeth Hardawy of VA
|
John LETT of England to York co VA by 1651
