Hello out there;
I am interested in any of these names in Dearborn Co Indiana; and Jackson Co In.
Davis/ Brannan(on)/ and French in the late 1700's and early 1800's.
Namely;
The parents of the following;
Cassandra ( Keziah) French who mar. to William Davis in 1812, there or maybe Va.?????
Cassandra died at 95 yrs. in Tama Co. Iowa in `1890. I have a picture of her at about
that age, with a night cap on ( no Hair) and no teeth.
Sometime after the birth of their 2nd son, John b Dec. 1814, ( first was Joshua b June
1813), they either divorced or ??? what happened to Wm.???a mystery.
In abt 1826 in the Court of Dearborn Co. there is a record that gives Joshua to a man
with surname of Gerard as guardian saying he was an orphan as father, William Davis had
died.
Now how can he be an orphan as his mother Cassandra French Davis, now since 1818 mar. to
Moses Brannan(on) as stated in Franklin Co In ( adjoining Dearborn Co.) in abt April 1818
under name of Keziah Davis and was still living in Dearborn Co.????
In the 1820 census these two sons were not listed as boys or at all with the Brannan
Family. They, in 1820 had a dau. Jerusha and (my Memory) maybe a son name William listed
in age bracket, These names I learned from later information.
Later The Brannan family moved to Jackson Co. In. in 1829 or 1830 before the census and
before the birth of a son name Thomas Jefferson Brannan in 1830, who incidentally was the
first school teacher in 1850 to the Grassy Fork new school built and land donated by
Price and Thomas's brother-in-law James Johnson,(wife was Jerusha Brannan).
Moses and Thomas were residing with the Johnson family at the time. Cassandra with
another son and family.
I also found a Joshua and John( several of these) Davis in Jackson Co in 1830's.
Haven't found more about these Davis sons other than that they were worker's ( in
what capacity unk. to me) on the river boats there someplace. Handed down in a short
biography letter written by a dau. of Thomas and mother.
I am needing any information on any of these surnames mentioned here.
Can anyone help me???
Cassandra and Moses are my great great grandparents.

I am looking for a William Davis family in Jackson County, Indiana, as well. He migrated
there from North Carolina about 1818/1819 with his children, William, Joseph, John R.,
Thomas, Mary Davis England, Sally Davis Crum. These children were all born by 1803 in
North Carolina. I have suspected that they were part of the Quaker migration to Indiana,
but stayed in the southern part of the state.
Old William died in 1836, he was an early land owner in Jackson Co.,Ind. Two of his sons
married Bunton daughters of Ebenezer Bunton. (Thomas and William)
John married Mary Jackson of Tennessee; no names are known for Joseph's 2 wives.
I have traced all of this family except old William and son Joseph. William Davis is
probably the most used name in the country, perhaps outdone by Jim Smith.
Thanks for any help.
