Thanks Sheri for your welcome message , since I am new
to your Jackson County group. I was born in Seymour1923
and my related family names are BARTLETT ,BOONE,
DARLING, EuDALY ,and PRESTON. All very prominent
names when strolling through River View Cemetery and
reading early Daily Tribune articles from the Civil War era.
The BOONE's are in the famous Daniel Boone lineage.
I have a particular need to make contact with a local resident(s)
of Seymour who could help restor identification of an unmarked
plot in River View Cemetery. The lot of interest is located in
Section C No. 122 . There are no markers but it should be
Melvin Boone(Jr) born Seymour 10 Feb 1872 died 15July 1895.
Young "Mel" was son of Melvin Dallas and Alice BOONE who
resided on East Third St. ,Seymour . Mel was killed in a railroad
accident and the Tribune obituary said it was one of the largest
funeral processions of that period lead by the Brotherhood of
Railroad Engineers. He and his father Melvin Sr, worked on the
O&M which later became part of the B&O railroad.
In this same Lot 122 Section C is interned Alice Edna (Preston)
BOONE born 26Mar 1849 died 10 Sept 1892. She was
wife of Melvin Dallas Boone and mother of young ":Mel" referred
to previously.
The third BOONE buried in this unmarked Lot 122 SectC is
Caroline ( BROKUS ) BOONE b.1820 in Oxford Ohio She
married Josiah -Ezra BOONE in 1837 and died in Seymour in
December 1912 at age 92 . Caroline was mother of Melvin
Dallas Boone of Seymour and the young "Mel" buried on the same
plot #122 was Caroline's grandson. There is extensive information
relating to Caroline herself and her.two sons Lt. William Boone and
Homer (Omar) Boone who served more the four years in the
Civil War with Indiana 33rd Volunteer Infantry which was
part of the famous Coburn's Brigade and Shermans March to the Sea. .
My grandmother ,daughter of Melvin Dallas (Sr.) and the above
Alice (Preston ) BOONE was Iva(Ivy) Moina BOONE .She married
Leonard Linden BARTLETT and resided all their lives in Seymour.
Ivy died in 1947 and is interned with other BARTLETT's in another
section of River View.
Time has moved on and to my knowledge there are no descendents
of this line of BOONE's anywhere in or near Indiana.
I personally live in Jupiter , Florida and travel is limited. The only
other distant cousin I am aware of is a young lady who lives in
California. Thus I would like to find an individual or group who
would share our interest in preserving the identification of early
families of Seymour. Their assistance would be appreciated.
I have rather detail information relevant to the family history of
the BOONE's , BARTLETT's , and DARLING;s which I
would be pleased to share with others who are doing genealogy
research..
