I am looking for the obituary of Clara Bell Phipps born August 1896 (SSI has birth listed as August 9, 1900) in Indiana, died November 11, 1991 in Seymour, Jackson, Indiana. Place of burial unknown, but most likely was in Seymour. Clara was the daughter of James Thomas Phipps and Jenny Murphy Phipps. Her siblings were Harman, Cordie, Clarence, Margaret, and Robert.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You, Gale

That's another problem...
JTBS was not born until 1855 and I cannot find his father in the 1850 census. His Father's name was George W. Staton. Would there possibly have been a Thomas Blackburn?
"Thomas" is not a name that seems to be in our family but I suppose it could have been his Gr-Grandfather's name...that's another of my stumbling blocks. Actually the whole family gives me fits at times.
In the 1856 census of Iowa, Jesse Staton, his wife, Patience, 2 of their daughters and 1 son is listed as being in Des Moines County and having been resided there for 8 years. Still I cannot locate them in the Federal census for 1850. Then, Jesse and 1 son "magically" appear in Retreat, Jackson County with his grandson and granddaughter, JTBS and Harriet Staton. I have
no clue as to what happened in between 1856 and 1860.

Where did you find JTBS in 1850 census? My Blackburn family ended up in Clark County Illinois. Mary Blackburn's father was a Julius Blackburn. I bet his mother's maiden name was
indeed Blackburn.

My Eliza Beem married an Adams who died. I have been told he drowned. My William Crow married Eliza Adams in 1836 and she passed away in 1852. So our dates are off. It is very possible that Eliza and Lucinda might have been related someway. I hope soon to go to Jackson and Washington County to research these two Lane families. I am so sorry that there is not match. It has been so long for me to make a single major step in any of my lines. I am really "hungry" for a little success!! Thanks for responding to my message.

I am a descendant of the Crow and Lane families of Washington County,
Indiana, but I do not have the names you are interested in, in my database.
Get in touch with me if you can learn more about them, then perhaps I will
have information on their ancestors. Wish I could be of more help.

I do not know of any Crows in my line with the name you are hunting, but that does not mean that there is no connection - as you well know in genealogy. My William Crow was born in 1812 (as per information written my him). I cannot find any record to prove this, but most census records figure out to be 1810 or 1811 approximately. He says he was born in KY, but no place given. I believe he was born in Lincoln Co, KY. He married Eliza Adams in Jackson County, IN in 1836. I believe her to have been Eliza Beem who married an Adams, then he died and remarried William Crow. They moved to WAshington Co and lived there until she passed away in 1852. Then later in 1852 he married Caroline Jane Lane in Washington Co. and they moved back to Jackson County. He undoubtedly married quickly due to having four children - some very young. I have the marriage record for this second marriage. I thought due to the age difference that there might be a name of the father or brothe!
r as giving consent. But, alas, Caroline was of age!
The family lore has it that Caroline was a sister to "Zeke". But nothing else is known about Zeke. Also that Zeke was the grandfather to "Nebo". Don't know who he was either.
I joined a website for Crows that is into DNA testing. Now I cannot test since I am female and only the male lines can. But they found and put me in touch with a man who I proved was descended from Wm and Eliza. He agreed to test. So now I know that we descend from a Walter and Ann Crow from Delaware and Virginia. They had five sons (I believe that is correct without looking). I have worked and worked with what little information I have. I seem to know that I am missing two generations. I have a gut feeling that I know who those two are, but I surely cannot prove it.
I hope - even if this is not helpful - you might find it of a little interest. If I can answer more questions, please let me know. Glad to have another researcher with a like interest.

I am interested in information on the Blackburn family and your listing mentioning a Mary Blackburn caught my eye. My gr-grandfather's name was Jesse Thomas Blackburn Staton. I know nothing about his mother but have always thought her maiden might have been Blackburn. She seems to have disappeared perhaps died in childbirth.
JTBS (age 5) is listed in the 1860 census with his grandfather Jesse, an uncle William, and a sister Harriet (age 1). No other family members e.g. father, mother, grandmother.etc.

My gggrandfather William Crow married a Caroline Jane Lane in 1852 in Washington Co, IN. They moved to Jackson and spent most of their years together in Jackson Co. I am interested in tracing her parents and siblings. Family lore has it that she was a sister to Zeke Lane. That is basically all I know of the family. I know that there was an Ezekial Lane in the 1850's in Washington Co. Does anyone have any knowledge of Caroline or her family? Thanks so very much for any help that can be given.

I just found your message on a Rootsweb message board regarding Methodist circuit riders. I've known for years I have a Methodist preacher lurking somewhere in my background...I've put off researching him as long as I can. Since I just discovered he was a circuit rider, your message really caught my eye while I was looking through other research possibilities today.
If you still would share the information you referred to in your post, I would love to see it. Maybe it will get things moving for my Preacher Jones.
My email is chachipup(a)yahoo.com
Thanks...Jacki
