Trudi,
Some of the Venne immigrants settled in Vennedy, Illinois.
I searched the immigrant list Mr. Thoerner gave me several years ago. Neither Bernard or Angus are on it. Most of the Niehaus immigrants were born in the 1840's. Perhaps if you can get back one more generation, there could be something.
Do you know for sure that they came from the Venne Parish or surrounding area? Were there any ties to Vennedy, Illinois or Jackson Co., Indiana? Did you look at the Web site for Venne? http://www.venne-families.de./ Mr. Thoerner has some clues listed there as to where you might look. Let me know.

Yes, Alvin is one of six siblings, his father is Bernard Niehaus, his mother is Anna Holtmann. The father of Bernard is Angus Niehaus and his mother is Anna Schnappers. The spelling of Niehaus has gone through different spellings, Bernard was born on 6-11-1863, Anna 8-17-1868, they were married 8-3-1886 in Quincy, Ill. I derived this information from a family bible found in my mothers (her side of the family) hope chest.

Hello -
Are the Bridgewaters of Jackson county the same family to which Patience Bridgewater belongs? Patience married a Samuel Bennett in Nelson county KY around 1816-7, after which they lived in Scott county IN.
I am actually tracing Samuel Bennett to determine if he was related to a William Bennett (m. Elizabeth Gabbard) who also lived in Scott county at that time (William is my ancestor). Census records show William as born in KY.

Go to this web page for starters. http://www.venne-families.de./ Can you go father back than Alvin? If so I may be able to help some. In addition to the documented Niehaus/Newhouse immigrants, there was one man that came over as a stow-away, who settled in the same area of the Niehaus immigrants. Please e-mail me direct and I will help all I can.
