William H. Young first married Rebecca Sturgeon 1835, who was the mother of
Solomon Young. Rebecca was the daughter of Daniel Stugeon. Wm H. married
Nancy Sturgeon in 1844 after the death of Rebecca.
Wiliam ( The one you speak of) was a son of the second marriage.
Sorry no marriage information for John WES COLLINS m. EVA B.YOUNG
I am thinking this marriage would have taken place sometime in 1860. Wanda
Dear Listers:
I am researching my familial relationship with P. H. H. J. K. Borchers. The
following is the data I have on him. Can you add any more or would you know
whom or where I might contact to glean additional information in this regard?
Thank you for your help in this exceeding important matter.
Bob Heinrichs
Education:
He attended grammar school in Luneburg for ten years; thereafter, studied
theology for three years at the University in Gottingen. (Seymour, IN
newspaper; 1952)
Ministry:
1839; Washington, DC
1843; Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lancaster, Fairfield Co., OH
April, 1847- October, 1855 (minimum); Evangelical Lutheran Church, New
Bremen, OH (Auglaize Co.)
April, 1858-1881; St. Paul's Evangelical Church on White Creek (Cortland Post
Office, near Seymour), Jackson Co., IN; until retirement
The recorded above church history dates to January, 1852. Before that
immigrants from Norther Germany had settled first in OH and then moved into
Jackson Co. about 1835. In 1839 the trustees purchased the current 40 acres
of land for $50; constructed a 20 ft. by 30 ft. church and school (replaced
1869); and a parsonage (replaced 1875) thereon. The first written history
was recorded in 1852 when the congregation voted a $150 per year salary on
the assumption that "Pastor Borchers will send us a good preacher". This
indicates that "a Pastor Borchers" was on the scene at this time. Local
legend had him as a public school teacher, postmaster, lawyer and general
community leader. This could be an inconsistancy for P. H. H. J. K.
Borchers who was in New Bremen, OH thru 1855. Minutes of January 14, 1857,
indicate that Pastor "Borges" of New Bremen was installed. On March 30,
1858, Pastor Borchers was "fetched" from nearby Jonesville by one of the
members. He preached his initial sermon on Easter, April 5, 1858. (Letter
from Reverend John Wanamaker, Pastor St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Seymour, IN
dated July 7, 1981) Due to Pastor Borchers' connection in OH, the
congregation joined the OH Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1858.
(120 th Anniversary Commemoration Booklet, 1972) See un-named St. Paul's
history in notes. During Pastor Borchers" time, the community took on his
name (as was custom of the area and the times); to this day the area is
"Borchers" and the church is often referred to as "Borchers' Church".
Resigned from church due to ill health; retired to only living child's
residence: Mrs. Henry B. Aufderheide, Hope, IN (Barth Co.). (Seymour, IN
newspaper, 1952; Reverend Wanamaker's July 7, 1981 letter to Mrs. Wilkins;
St. Paul's Church, Seymour, IN 120 year anniversary, 1972; St. Pauls Lutheran
Church writeup, undated)
He wrote a history of the life of that eminent divine, Martin Luther, which
was met with rapid sales. He had at the time of his death a manuscript
almost completed for a volume of some religious work. (Jackson Co., IN
Obituaries 1881-85, Jonette Karen Johnson, Heritage Books, Inc.)
Funeral Service:
Delivered by Reverend P.C.H. Althoff: Phillipians 1,23; "I have desire to
depart an be with Christ". "Remembering the last years and days of his life
on earth, we know that he suffered much pain and agony; for the decaying body
often denied this duty, whereas the soul sought for deliverance to be at
home. But he laid all cares with childlike faith and trust in the hand of
his Heavenly Father, who according to his wisdom, grace and compassion, does
not give us sinners a bigger cross than is needed for our good. The body now
sleeps in earth's cool crypt, till Christ to new life will call it. The
redeemed soul is now awaiting the resurrection's happy awakening." (Seymour,
IN newspaper, 1952)
