Thanks Sharon,
The info on Malinda was very helpful. If possible could you tell me when
Malinda and Richard Dotson were married and Malinda's maiden name? I would very
much appreciate it. Thanks so much for the help.
Lee.

I am not sure if this connects either but I have a DOUGHTERY marriage to my
HOOD line. Both were born in Knox Co., TN and could have possibly moved to
Indiana like the rest of the family did at one point. The names were Henry
Dougherty married to Daisy Hood b. 1882. Children were: Henry Ward
Dougherty and Daisy Louise Dougherty.

Charlotte,
I just want to thank you again for all the help you gave me when I was at
the library on July 24. I found at least two new pieces of information and
got leads to follow for several more. You are a jewel!

Dear Don,
Please don't worry about your original message! I've certainly made my share
of e-mail blunders, and yours certainly didn't cause any harm.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to stop your message from getting into the
digest version. However, by way of this message, I'm letting you and the
list know that I'm taking you up on your offer to do lookups from the book by
Elizabeth Meuting. You're now listed on the Jackson County Lookups page at
www.rootsweb.com/~injackso/lookups.html ! Thank you for making this
generous offer.
Charlotte's been a wonderful help to this list, so I'll be anxious to see how
she responds to your message about borrowing the other E. Meuting book.
She's got a great page on the JCPL site with some good Jackson County
historical information and I can't wait to see what she comes up with when
the library is finished reorganizing its Indiana collection and she's had a
chance to update her local resources list.
Take care, and thank you also for the kind words about the Jackson County
GenWeb site. There's a lot that can be done with it and I hope that with
lots of help from visitors to the site and the people on the Jackson County
Discussion list, we'll just keep adding to it. I can certainly use as much
help as possible, since I live very far from Jackson County (in Denver, CO)
and actually haven't ever been there, although I do have ancestors that lived
there that I'm still researching, as time permits. My husband hates to
travel and has never been bitten by the genealogy bug, so I'm still trying to
twist the arm of one of my younger sisters to see if she'll take a research
trip to Jackson County with me someday....maybe next summer!
Sorry for being so long-winded!
Sincerely,
Dolores

Harley,
That is fascinating. We were up that way last month and drove all around
Medora looking through old cemetaries. Unfortunately, the ones that go back
have not been kept up very well. Most of the stones are illegible or broken,
or both and piled up in places. I am sure that there is a connection to the
grave you found. All the Doughertys in Jackson Co. were related to us,
especially seeing as most of the family lived in Medora. There is a James
Dougherty in Medora who may be the "J" on the stone. If anyone has any more
information on this grave or family please let me know. And, Harley, thank you
very much, this is the first new bit of information I have gotten in a very
long time.

Dolores,
Please accept my apologies to you. I just sent a note to Charlotte thanking
her for all the great work on the Jackson County INGenWeb site. Now I
realize you are the Coordinator (and have done all that great work) and
Charlotte is the Seymour librarian in charge of the genealogy section (of
course she does great work there as well). Sorry for my confusion. I hope
you screen these messages and they don't automatically end up in the Digest.

Charlotte,
I'd like to add my thanks for all the outstanding work you do in support of
genealogy research. You have developed a great home page for the Jackson Co.
RootsWeb.
Does the Seymour Library have a copy of the book, "John Weddle," author
Elizabeth Weddle Mueting. I have her book, "Kinfolks: Weddle, Sullivan,
Gable, Roach." I have seen a Xerox copy the John Weddle book, (I believe at
the JCGS library). The reason for the question is to see if it might be
available for ILL.
If others have queries that I could help with the Kinfolks book, I'd be glad
to look up a reasonable amount.
Don Grantham
I'm not sure this connects with your Doughterys. My gg-grandfather, George
W. Brown, Sr. was buried in the Lanning-Spur Cemetery, just west of Medora
in Jackson County in 1872. He too came to Jackson County from Kentucky ca.
1840 and lived in both Jackson and Lawrence Counties. A grave almost next
to his reads: Everett, child of J & S.F. Dougherty, born 1870, died 1870.
I can't remember if any other Doughertys were buried there, but I would
think it would be a good possibility.

Hello All:
I am looking for some help. I am descended from the Doughertys who
lived first in Lawrence Co. then in Jackson Co. Preston moved the
family to near Medora I believe around the 1840s. I have looked with no
avail for information on Preston and his descendants. I am descended
through his son Alexander, his son Edgar, his son, Everett, my father
Everett Jr. and then me, Everett III. Any information on any of these
individuals would be greatly appreciated. I am especially interested in
where Preston, his first wife Massey (or Mary), and his second wife
Malinda, are buried. If anyone can help please let me know, I will be
indebted to you.

Dolores,
Thanks for your kind words. In answer to your questions:
> I've been wondering whether the Jackson County Public Library received any
> microfilmed copies of any county records as part of the County Records of
> Indiana Microfilming Project (CRIMP)?
No, the library did not receive them, although I'm looking into the
possibility of acquiring them. My understanding is that they were
provided to the clerk's office in the courthouse and to the county
seat library, which in Jackson County is Brownstown PL. If I'm not
mistaken, the county genealogical society, also in Brownstown, has a
set.
> Also, how much of the genealogical and
> historical information that is at the Jackson County Public Library is
> available through inter-library loan?
We usually will interlibrary loan anything that normally would
circulate to local patrons. Basically, we circulate family histories
and local histories if we have more than one copy. That means copies
of the county histories can be ILL'ed if they are on the shelf.
As long as we fortunately continue to have 100 per cent returns on
ILLs of these materials, we probably will continue such loans. So
I'll get on my soapbox long enough to say it is up to the folk
borrowing the books whether we continue such loans.
We have only a couple duplicates of family histories, but it never
hurts to ask. As one of the ILL librarians, I usually try to offer "a
reasonable number" of photocopies of pages (if the requestor knows
which are needed) or of the index or bibliography, if that will help,
when an item does not circulate.
And when I file for local borrowers, I try to get that information so
I can include it as an alternative in the original request. It takes
a little extra handling on both ends but getting material to folk
serious enough about their research to help with the request makes it
worthwhile.
More libraries seem to be cooperating in providing family history
materials and I'm really glad to see it. Just wish we were equipped
to provide more timely service -- & of course, funded to purchase
duplicates of everything so we could fill most requests.
Our patrons are grateful for the help they find on your Web site.
Thanks for including the library!
