I've just finished adding a link to a calendar set up specifically for the
Jackson County INGenWeb site. There is a link to the calendar page from the
main page of the Jackson County site
(http://www.rootsweb.com/~injackso/#Calendar), or you can go to it directly
at the following address:
http://resources.rootsweb.com/~calendar/cgi-bin/addevent.cgi?calname=Jack...
ounty_Indiana_INGenWeb_
(You'll have to make sure there are no spaces when you enter this address,
otherwise it won't work for you.)
Anyone can add entries to the calendar, and if necessary, come back and edit
or delete the entries that they made. (The "program" that creates the
calendar entries requires your name, e-mail address, and a password selected
by you to make sure you can come back to edit your entries.)
The information you can include in a calendar entry includes the title of the
event, the type of event, the date(s) for the event, and other details such
as the time and place, description, etc. For this calendar, I would suggest
adding entries about meetings related to Jackson County genealogy or history,
reunions, maybe chat sessions about Jackson County if someone is interested
in setting them up, or anything else that visitors to the site might be
interested in.
One potential drawback to the calendar site is that no one person has control
over the calendar entries. Therefore, if inappropriate entries show up on
the calendar, I will have to see if the folks at RootsWeb will be able to
delete them. Also, if you make entries and then forget your password to go
back and edit them, I won't be able to help you--you'll have to contact
RootsWeb.
In any event, I'm going to cross my fingers and hope that this will be a
useful tool for all of you and that no one decides to mess it up.
If you've got something you want to make sure other people interested in
Jackson County genealogy or history know about, feel free to use the
calendar. (And don't forget to send something to this mailing list, too!)
Sincerely,
Dolores Lombardi

For those of you that submitted these names, thank you for waiting so
patiently for me to add your names. Best of luck with your research!
Also, I owe responses to e-mails to some of you....I'm working on trying to
answer them, but sometimes I'm rather slow because I live quite far from
Jackson County (actually in Colorado) and I don't have as many reference
books for Jackson County as I would like. Also, my CD-ROM drive has broken
down, so I haven't been able to look at any of my census or genealogy disks
in a while. :-(

Welcome and thank you for the update. Please give my personal regards

Hello All,
I have had the extreme pleasure to have been able to spend a few
weeks picking my mothers memory and the following information was passed to
her by my Grand Mother Bonnie Bell DANIELS-STEIN.
I am questioning the following information and asking for help and
assistance in verifying the information with all available records.
1. William Henry Harrison DANIELS, was to have migrated by covered wagon
with his daughters Blanche, Kate, and one other daughter - name unknown.
2. After the death of his wife JULIA ANN BIGGS-DANIELS, died 28 February
1901.
3. They migrated from Grassy Forks, Jackson County, Indiana to Anadarko,
Caddo County, Oklahoma abt 1903.
4. Lee DANIELS the son William Henry Harrison DANIELS and Julia Ann BIGGS
was to have stayed behind and taught College/School in Brownstown, Jackson
County, Indiana.
5. Blanche DANIELS was supposedly never married and had no children. She
lived and died in Anadarko, Caddo County, Oklahoma.
6. Kate DANIELS was supposedly married to an officer that was attached to
Fort Smith Oklahoma who was a member of the masons. They both raised a
little girl that was left on their door step name-unknown.
7. The third daughter name-unknown supposedly lived and died in Kansas City
Kansas/Missouri.
8. There is a small museum near the rail road track that we visited when I
was younger that has furniture and other items that belonged to the DANIELS.
I do know that William Henry Harrison DANIELS born 1850 in Kentucky, died
1918, buried in Russell Chapel Cemetery, Jackson County, Indiana. William
Henry Harrison DANIELS married Julia Ann BIGGS born 1851, died 28 February,
1901, buried in Russell Chapel Cemetery, Jackson County, Indiana. They where
married 28 May 1871 in Jackson County, Indiana.
Thank you for your help and assistance in advance,

Greetings Jackson County Researchers:
Since the Jackson County Public Library at Seymour has been mentioned
here a few times recently, I'm jumping in.
I hesitate, because the library is not really set up at this time to
respond quickly to information requests and I want to be able to help
when I can.
You all do a fantastic job of helping each other and I'm delighted to
see that! I know how much help listservs are in my personal
research. Last winter I became the local and family history librarian
at JCPL, after Elizabeth Rebber retired as genealogist in the autumn.
I have yet to come anyway near to spending the planned 20 hours a week
in the Indiana Collection (as a result still of "re-engineering" my
former assistant reference librarian job from 40 to 20 hours for just
one full-time job) and I am trying hard to get those 20 hours!
Mike Schrink wrote that he thought he had seen a partial 1890 census
at JCPL. I wish that were so! And Mike, please e-mail me if there is
something I don't know about. I'm still discovering uncataloged
resources that I want to make available. As far as I know, only a
small part of the 1890 census exists for the entire country...
Also, for maps of Jackson County (not as useful as the large color map
of the county, in many ways), you may find help at <www.topozone.com>
where you can search for a town in Jackson County & bring up various
scale topo maps which are printable. Take time to read the
instructions -- the most important being to search for just the
location name first, then pick the location from the correct state in
the hit list -- otherwise you may get no hits. (I don't know why, but
that's what the instructions say & that's how it worked for me...after
I read the instructions!) <big g>
The library has a Web site and I'm trying to get the Jackson County
and general links back on that.
<http://www.seymour.org/library/infosrvc/lfh/lfhentry.htm> I took
most of it down because of outdated links and lack of time to maintain
it. (Sound familiar?)
Some from the old site (with outdated navigation links; use the
browser back button to return) that may help are:
Newspapers at JCPL
<http://www.seymour.org/library/infosrvc/famhist/newspprs.htm>
Census at JCPL
<http://www.seymour.org/library/infosrvc/famhist/censuses.htm>
Microform at JCPL
<http://www.seymour.org/library/infosrvc/famhist/microfrm.htm>
These URLs will change as I get time to move them to the updated site,
so do not be surprised when they disappear. Just check the main Local
& Family History page for the new links. Also I appreciate knowing
about outdated links on the current pages -- even if it takes me a
long time to get them changed. Thanks for any help you can give me!
Hope this helps. Happy searching & collecting!

I have the map from the visitor's center at the outlet mall. It is pretty
much worthless. It's very difficult to determine the township boundries from
the roads. I got a much better map at the gen. society. I also saw the same
one on the wall in an office at the courthouse, so I think it may be the
same one from the DNR office. It is a very good map. Each township is in a
different color and it shows a lot, if not all of the locations of the
cemetaries.
