Hi Maxine, I live in Virginia Beach, Va. & read all the Jackson Co.
postings because my great grandma, Maggie Leslie Swift lived there. but
............... WOW, your post ( g-g- grandfather named Maybe) was the
most interesting one I have read in a long time ! Don't worry, most of
us are not going to find royalty in our lines & may find a surprise along the
way. I have never wanted just names & dates...it is the stories that
interest me & you have a whopper...Good Luck !

Have just put what info I have on my kin from Jackson Co., IN on a Web
Page..
Please enjoy...appreciate any feed back.

Daniel Maybee was my gg-grandfather. He is on the Jackson County Indiana 1850 Census (age 36) with wife Mary (maiden name Moore) (30); daughters, Sarah (9) b. KY; Eliza J. (4) b. IN; and Elizabeth A. (1/12)
b. IN. Sarah was my g-grandmother.
Following this census, I completely lose track of Daniel. Mary and the three girls show up on the 1860 census in Jersey County, IL. Mary remarried in 1856 in Jersey County, and was a widow-lady farmer on the 1860 census.
Now - the kicker~ I found in the library yesterday! "History of Jackson County" page 579: IMPORTANT CRIMINAL TRIALS. "In March 1852, Daniel Maybe (one e), was indicted for the murder of John Quarmby. He was said to have done the killing December 10, 1851, by stabbing. Maybe escaped and was never tried." This is all the article says.
I was hoping someone in Jackson County might be able to find/supply or steer me in the right direction to find out more information on this. It is not a very nice thing to find out about a relative, but if this is my Daniel, I certainly would like to know. The time was certainly right, as I lost track of him between 1850 (census information) and 1856 (his wife, Mary remarried).
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me.
