>>Dang! Thank ya LOADS! This is a shocker for me! Wonder what I get out
of this! 10% of the $14.80. You see, back in 1990, dumb me signed a
contract that Heritage could handle this book The Jackson Co., IN Marriages.
I sent the master and they produced a very very poor copy and sold it with
my getting 10% of the sales. This went on for awhile and then discontinued.
I didn't make but a small amount on the sales. No wonder, the book was
pathetic. Now they have it on CD! This is terrible. Well, I live and
learn! I so appreciate your advising me of this! Thank you! Carol
PS: My publication is updated and it is legible which is probably more than
you can say if they are utilizing the master they used. Not very clear!
I have also added to this publication.
I need to cool off, right? hehehehe! :) <<
It sounds like I'd much rather have a copy of what you've got :-) Can I get
it for the $1.40? (kidding)

Carol, I'll second Tracy's question. How would someone get a copy of your
version of this publication? Is it by chance the 2-volume set that the
Jackson County Genealogical Society sells for $25.00 per volume? I have the
volume that covers 1921-1940 but didn't purchase the 2-volume set from JCGS
covering 1856-1920 because the main library here in Denver carries your book.

Hi:
I tried to subscribe to a Rootsweb list for Lawrence Co., Ind and it
bounced back. Does any one know if they have one and what correct name
entry would be?
If not, does any one have a Lawrence Co marriage book and would please
look up the surname of McLaughlin for years 1820 through 1865. Should
not be many. Especially looking for Noah McLaughlin and Sarah A or Sally
Caldwell or Coldwell in mid 1850's.
Thank you kindly,
Judy (in Ks)
The pre 1850 Indiana marriages can be found by going to Indiana GenWeb site
and then clicking on State Site. This and other helpful info can be found
there.
Dear Janet, It seems that your Henry Hawkins was born Sep 11, 1820 and died
May 17, 1904. He married Mary Ann Reynolds October 20, 1851, Book C Page 46.
He is buried at Bagwell Cemetery which is in Owen Twp. in Jackson Co. The
following is from the Owen Twp. Jackson Co. Cemetery Book Page 4, Mary Ann
Reynolds Hawkins, born December 21, 1824, died Jan 17, 1905. Same as with
husband. They are buried side by side. Also, it seems that Mary Ann
Reynolds was the probable daughter of Noah Reynolds as in the 1850 census, we
find Mary A., age 15, born Indiana, residing with Noah, age 50, and his young
wife, 29 yr old Nancy. Probable sibling is Marion age 16, a farmer. I have
a feeling that the cemetery book is probably in error. I have no idea where
they show this is Mary Ann Reynolds other than that is what is printed within
the book. (More addition to your questions, right?)
Now, if we look this over one more time, I would say that the oldest down to
the 7 yr old, are children of Mary Ann Reynolds and the children after that
time, are children by his 2d wife, Mary as they married Dec 2, 1854.
However, you are probably right and the 12 yr old John is really John Martin
rather than John Hawkins. It is most likely that Mary Ann (Reynolds) Hawkins
probably died in child-birth, wouldn't you say? I think the cemetery book is
in error and the Mary we find buried next to him is probably Mary
(Lorance-Martin) Hawkins. Yep! We may have it! Who knows! Hey! Happy
hunting! Wish I could help more. Oh, I also found where Flona M. (Sigler)
Hawkins was buried at Clearspring Cemetery which is also located in Owen
Twp., right? - Flona M. Hawkins b. May 18, 1887 died July 2, 1932; There is
also a Cecil Indiana F3 US Navy WWI b. Jun 23, 1900 d. Jan 17, 1968; and Vada
Payne Hawkins, b. Feb 15, 1902 d. Jan 22, 1968.
You mentioned not finding Henry within the 1850 census of Jackson. I checked
Brown, Lawrence, Monroe and Daviess and no success. Still, it gives his
birth as Indiana, certain he is around in one of the southern counties.
Regarding other census readings: We find Edward & Mary Martin as you said in
1850. As for the Mary Reynolds, she is not married to your Henry as yet.
They marry after the 1850 census and she resides with her probably father and
step mother. From my publications, 1850 Jackson Co., IN Census, Carr Twp.,
taken by Jeremiah T. Tanner, ass't marshal; Page 168 taken Aug 6, 1850
hh/fam# 13/14. I wonder if your Henry may have married in another county too.
He would have been 32 in 1850. Carol
I can't find Henry!
His son, Samuel Hawkins was living in Vermilion Co.,IL in 1878, when he and
Mary Martin were married. (The marriage took place in Ford Co.,IL) Samuel's
parents were listed as Henry Hawkins and Mary Reynolds. Samuel's son Samuel
David Hawkins was born in Vermilion Co.,IL in 1884. Samuel David Hawkins
married Flona Sigler in Jackson Co.,IN. in 1904 and their first five
children were born in Jackson Co.,IN. The sixth child was born after they
moved to Lawrence Co.,IN. (Mary Martin Hawkins' father, William W Martin,
also joined them in Lawrence Co.)
I MAY have found Henry in Jackson Co., in 1860. The census shows Henry age
42, birthplace IN (that's where dob ca 1818 is from) wife Mary age 35 and
six children, including a Samuel age 7. However, Jackson Co.,IN marriage
records show Henry Hawkins and Mary Lorance Martin m:02 Dec 1854. Mary
Lorance was previously married to Edward Martin 25 Mar 1847 and appears in
the 1850 Jackson Co.,IN census with Ed and son John age 2. (There is a John
age 12 listed with Henry and Mary in 1860) Henry is not in Jackson Co. IN
according to the 1850 census. In 1850 there is a Mary Reynolds, living with
her widowed mother and two brothers.
Where was Henry in 1850, did he marry this Mary Reynolds, if so, where and
what happened to her?
Hope someone can make sense of this and maybe connect.........:(
Janet
Is there a Waggoner in the Robertson Cemetery, by chance? Where is it
located in Salt Creek Twp.?

Dear Jan, is there stones at Robertson Cem. for your Lewis family? I have
the Salt Creek Twp. Cemetery book and Robertson Cemetery is listed within
it.
No Lewis' found within this cemetery. The only Lewis' I find is in the
Hickory Grove Cemetery which is really in Lawrence Co. but many Jackson Co.
burials there. The two I found were: Julia D. Lewis born 10 Feb 1888 and
died 28 Aug 1955; and Paul E. Lewis born 5 Feb 1917 and died Dec 16, 1921.
Or is there another Robertson Cemetery? Just confused! hehehehe! :)
Carol Stultz
The earliest recorded white settler of Jackson Co. was Peter Audruan,
followed by Aquilla and Henry Rogers, all in 1807, in 1808 James
Hutchinson and four other men, not named in the text, arrived. Nowhere
did I find the Carroll family surname listed among the early settlers.

I am looking for information on the Carroll family of Jackson County,
Indiana. They may have moved there as early as the late 1700's. I know
that they were already living there with children when my gg-grandmother
Missouri Carroll was born in 1821.
Any information on any Carrolls in that area during that time period would
be appreciated.
Thanks,
Gayle
