HENRY JACOBS DIES;
LIVED HERE 67 YEARS

Henry J. Jacobs 85 years old, died at his home on Walnut Street Saturday night at 11:05
o'clock. He had been ailing for three years, but did not become seriously ill until
Friday morning. Mr. Jacobs was one of the oldest citizens of Huntington, having moved here
sixty-seven years ago.
He was born in Hessen Castle, Germany, August 20 1834 to Samuel and Cristina Jacobs. At
the age of eighteen years old he came to the United States, first living in Baltimore, Md.
He lived there but three months when he came to Fort Wayne where he lived for a short
period, after which he came to Huntington.
August 8, 1860, he was united in marriage to Louise Lauderman. Ten Children were born,
four of whom are deceased, Katherine, Henry A., Peter and Samuel E. Surviving are the
widow, six children, eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild and a cousin. The children
are Mrs. John Horn, Charles Jacobs, George Jacobs, Mrs. Harvey Ryan, Mrs. Charles Sims and
Harmon W. Jacobs, all of Huntington. The cousin is Mrs. Joseph Winton of Guthrie, Okla.
Mr. Jacobs was a life long member of the German Reformed Church and was a charter member
of St. Peter's Reformed Church of this city. He was a Civil War veteran, having been a
member of Company C, 153rd Indiana Volunteer Infantry.
The funeral will be held at the residence on Walnut Street, Tuesday afternoon at 3:30
o'clock. The Rev. Josias Friedli officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's
Reformed Cemetery.
