Patients in Hospital at South Bend

Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Horn, 57, 939 Charles Street, who died at 2 p.m. Friday
in the Memorial Hospital, South Bend, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident, will
be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Paulen officiating.
Mrs. Horn suffered her fatal injuries in a two car accident about 12:35 p.m. Friday on
U.S. 31 two miles south of South Bend. She was a passenger in an automobile driven by her
sister, Mrs. Mable Denzel, 51 1415 Dubois Street, Fort Wayne.
Husband Condition
Fair Lawrence S. Horn, 56 husband of the deceased woman, is in a fair condition in the
Memorial Hospital South Bend, with a fractured hip, dislocated shoulder and lacerations
and abrasions to the face and body. Also in the hospital are Mrs. Margaret Snyder, 24
daughter of the Horn's and Mr. Denzel. Mrs. Snyder has fractured ribs and is reported
in good condition. Mrs. Denzel, who suffered abrasions to the arm and possible back
injuries, is also in a good condition. Thomas and Timothy Snyder, 18 months, twin sons of
Mrs. Snyder were treated for shock and released.
Went on Visit
The Huntington people and Mrs. Denzel had left Friday morning to visit John Hildebrand and
family in South Bend. The Hildebrand's are former residents of Huntington. According
to the St. Joseph county sheriff's department, the Denzel car was going south on U.S.
31 and was being followed by the Cavanaugh automobile. Mrs. Denzel missed a turn and had
pulled off the highway in preparing to make a left hand turn in order that they could
backtrack and find the address. She failed to see the Cavanaugh vehicle which struck her
car in the left side.
Born in Wells County
Mrs. Horn was born August 18, 1892, in Wells County to George and Viona Ehret Schoch. She
married Lawrence Horn November 15, 1913. Surviving is the husband: three children. L.
Allan Horn, Evansville, Mrs. Arthur Snyder Jr., Huntington, and James R. Horn, at home; to
grandchildren Timothy and Thomas Snyder; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Denzel, Fort Wayne, and
Mrs. Howard M. Shultz, Huntington, and a brother, Earl Schoch, Huntington. A sister, Lela
V. Schoch, and a brother, J. Curtis Schoch, preceded her in death.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church, the L.S. to B. of L .F. & E. and the
Order of Eastern Star. She was the acting president of the G.I.A. to B. of L. E. All are
organizations of this city.
The body was taken to the Bailey Funeral Home where friends may call. Burial will be in
the Woodlawn Cemetery in Ossian.
