I was told that only the state holds divorce records from decades ago, and I do know that
in Wells Co., the divorce record I was searching for from the 1890's was not
maintained at their location, only at the state level.
To be honest, there was a divorce in my family that had me concerned, but I found them
living in the same household years later. I still want to have a DNA test because there
are so many interesting things to be learned.
I do feel for you, and the idea that much hard work may have gone into researching someone
else's ancestors must be quite disheartening. Perhaps there was an adoption?
Grandparents, siblings, friends and neighbors took in orphaned children and raised them as
their own. And there were lots of step-parents.
No matter what, remember that you still have lots of ancestors still waiting to be
discovered.
