Hello all,
I am researching the Pressler families of Huntington County, Indiana. My great
grandfather was Winfield Scott Pressler. Here is his line:
Winfield Scott Pressler b. 1894 in Huntington, IN; m. Ruth Iola Dubbs
Joseph C. Pressler b. 1854 in Huntington, IN; m. 1887 to Lillie May Sutton
Jacob Presler b. 1816 in Ohio; m. 1841 to Christine Waggoner
I have a land purchase record in 1838 for Jacob and another in 1848. He married in 1841
(as mentioned above) to Christine Waggoner. I have no further information on
Christine/Christina. They raised a family in the Huntington area and that family stayed
there until the early 1950's. There may be some Pressler's in the area from the
Francis Pressler line (Francis was Joseph's brother).
There is another man by the name of Samuel Presler who was also born in Ohio (ca. 1813)
and who also moved to Huntington at about the same time period. He is on the Huntington
census for 1840 and on the Wabash county census in 1850 (in Lagro, next to the Richards
family - his wife's family). In 1841 he married Eliza Richards. They eventually
raised their family in Huntington, Indiana... around the Dallas Twp area I believe.
Here are the similarities between my Jacob and Samuel Presler:
Same spelling of last name - with one "s" instead of 2 - both mens children
change to "ss"
Both are born within 3 years of each other
Both show up in Huntington County within 2 years of each other - possibly at the same
time... before then I cannot find ANY Presler or Pressler families in Huntington County.
Both married in 1841
Both have daughters named Lydia.
Samuel married Eliza and Jacob's first daughter was Eliza.
I am of the belief that these two men are either brothers or are otherwise closely
related, such as cousins. I just can't imagine that these two men would be the only
Preslers in Huntington County and not be related.
If any of you has information on either of these two men OR has information on
Christine/Christina Waggoner's family I'd love to hear it. My family moved from
Huntington in 1953 and still go back to visit every now and again.
I look forward to hearing back from any of you and if I do not... then I will keep looking
forward to reading this email list and finding out more about the people (in times past
and present) of Huntington County.
Best Regards,
Sharla Stevens
