Margaret Florence (Scudder) Howard of Yellow Springs, Ohio died May 5, 2004 at the Friends
Assisted Living Center. She was 92.
Born in Huntington, Indiana, July 12, 1911, she was the daughter of Jesse and Alta
(Nelson) Scudder.
Margaret received her education in Huntington public schools and graduated from Manchester
College, Ball State Teachers College, both in Indiana, and Columbia University Teachers
College in New York.
She was a very dedicated and well-respected elementary teacher in Bluffton, Indiana,
Huntington, Ind., and Yellow Springs, Ohio. Since moving to Yellow Springs in 1946, she
had been active in many community organizations such as the Community Children's
Center, Library Association, First Presbyterian Church and the Senior Center.
She was preceeded in death by her husband of 56 years, Kieth A. Howard, a former editor
and co-publisher of the Yellow Springs News; brother, Dr. Arthur Scudder and his wife,
Dorothy; sister, Elizabeth Scudder Canine and her husband, Kenneth; her twin sister,
Martha Scudder; brother-in-law, John E. Howard and sister-in-law, Oca C. Howard.
She is survived by her children, Marilyn Lookabaugh and Kermit Wilson and John M. and
Christina Howard; grandchildren, Scott and Amanda Lookabaugh and Kirk and Rachel
Lookabaugh; great-granddaughter, Jordan Lookabaugh; sister-in-law Cleo Howard; and four
nephews and a niece.
A memorial service for Margaret and Martha Scudder, who died on April 18, 2004, will be
held Saturday, May 29, at 10 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church. Donations in memory
of Keith and Margaret Howard may be made to the Yellow Springs Community Foundation, P.O.
Box 55, Yellow Springs, or the charity of one's choice.
