The Warren Tribune, April 22, 1904, Warren, Huntington County, Indiana
Death of Veteran.
Edward D. Winchell Passes away at his home in Lancaster Township.
Edward D. Winchell, of Lancaster township, died at his home near River after a short
illness Friday morning. He was seventy one years old and leaves a widow and four
children. For a number of years he has been a pension solicitor and had considerable
success in that line of work. He frequently visited Warren and was well known here.
The deceased was born in Fayette county, Indiana, June 18, 1832. He was twice married,
his first wife being Maggie McClure. They were married in Fayette county before the civil
war, and after Mr. Winchell had returned from the service they moved to Marion where Mrs.
Winchell died in 1884. He afterwards married Mary Weisler. Eighteen years ago they moved
to Lancaster township which continued to be his home until the time of his death.
Mr. Winchell was a veteran of the Civil War and served in the Eighteenth Regiment Indiana
Volunteers. He was sergeant of Company K in that regiment. The funeral was held at
Lancaster on Sunday morning and the burial was in the cemetery at that place.
