This is what I have so far...
Florence (Flora) M. Miller
b: May 1894 in Indiana (I believe in Huntington, Indiana - can't prove it)
d: (don't know for sure, but I believe before 1945 in Indiana)
I have her parents as Wilhelmina (Minnie) Dumbeck & John D. Miller..
In the 1900 census Florence is living with her grandparents, George & Fredericka
Dumback in Madison County Illinois, she was 6 yrs old at the time.
In the 1910 census, Florence,16, is living in the Guardian Angels Home, in Joliet City,
Illinois.
Florence was married (or going by the last name of Cottingham) by the 1920 census and had
a daughter, Dorotha, that was born in 1911. Found them in the 1920 census in 5-WD
Morehead, Greensboro, Guilford County NC.
In the 1930 census I found Florence Cottingham as an inmate at the Women's Prison of
Indiana, Indianapolis, Indiana, recorded on April 2, 1930. At the time of the 1930 census
she was 35 years old.
According to an adoption paper for a son, it lists Florence Miller and Samuel Cottingham
as his parents, and given the last name of Cottingham. Also the adoption paper says
Florence is the mother of four children. Of course, I don't know their names, except
this half sister Dorotha. Knowing according to a letter our cousin has (Dorotha's
daughter). Samuel couldn't be this son' father because Florence was in prison at
that time of his birth in June 1929, in Indianapolis, Indiana. This son was adopted to a
couple in Huntington, Indiana, December 1929.
According to this cousin, Dorotha's legal wedding papers, dated 1945, has Florence
marrying a Brown, but the paper didn't list his first name.
What I'm looking for is the name of this Brown, the place & date of death for
Florence. I would like more information on Florence as she would be our children's
grandmother.
