David C. “H. D.” Brandt, 55, Huntington, died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (May 24, 2006) at
Clarian Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Mr. Brandt worked for more than 25 years at the Indianapolis Raceway Park - National Hot
Rod Association in Indianapolis, from 1981 until the time of his death. He also served as
Huntington County coroner for seven years. He worked as an emergency medical technician
and dispatcher for Huntington Memorial Hospital for more than 20 years.
During his early years, he worked with his father in the family bakery, the former Sweet
Cup, and at E-Systems, Memcor Division, both in Huntington. He was also a certified first
class fire fighter.
Mr. Brandt was a member of Central Christian Church, Fraternal Order of Police, Diabetes
Youth Foundation of Indiana, No Limits Diabetes Inc., Indiana State Coroners Association,
and Indiana Fire Instructors and International Association of Arson Investigators. He was
a S.F.I. incident response instructor and a member of the Critical Incident Stress
Debriefing Team for the state of Indiana. He received a substantial number of awards and
certifications pertaining to his involvements both locally and nationally.
He graduated from Huntington High School in 1969 and received an associate's degree in
electronics from I.T.T. in Fort Wayne in 1971.
He was born March 20, 1951 in Huntington, a son of Carl O. and Helen Mae Marshall Brandt.
He married Cindy Weller in Peru on Nov. 15, 1986. His wife survives.
A sister, Sandy Eddy, Fort Wayne, also survives.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Family Life Center of Central Christian Church, 500
MacGahan St. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Central Christian
Church with Rev. John Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
