From Biographical Memoirs of Huntington County, 1901, pages 596-597
Irvin R. Myers, a progressive young farmer of Warren township, son of E. A. and Emma
(Bechtold) Myers, was born in the township of Clear Creek, Huntington county, Indiana, on
the 4th day of March, 1876. He comes of sturdy German stock, his father being a native of
the old country, as was also his maternal grandfather, Christian Bechtold. His parents
were married in Wabash county in 1875, and in addition to the subject have two other
children, Lois A., born April 7, 1887, and one that died in infancy.
Irvin R. Myers grew to manhood amid the stirring scenes and bracing airs of the county,
and after graduating from the common schools in 1894, entered the Central Normal College,
at Danville, Indiana. After taking the prescribed course Mr. Myers began teaching, and
was thus employed for three terms in the public schools of Huntington county. As an
instructor he made a most creditable record, and had his inclinations led him to devote
his life to educational work, he would unquestionably have become distinguished in that
eminently useful field.
Having decided upon farming as the field in which to embark on his life work, Mr. Myers
began the same in Warren township, and is now classed among the prosperous agriculturists
of the community where he resides. He is a man of progressive ideas, well informed upon
the leading questions of the day, and keeps himself fully abreast the times in all matters
pertaining to the vocation he follows. (sic) Keenly alive to all that interests his
neighborhood and township, he is a leader in public improvements, and manifests deep
concern in the educational and moral welfare of the younger generation that must ere long
assume the responsible duties of citizenship. He is popular with his neighbors and
friends, who look upon him as one of the most intelligent citizens of Warren; and if the
past is a criterion by which to judge, he will continue to be a potent factor in the
affairs of his township.
Mr. Myers was married December 22, 1899, to Miss Lizzie Davis, daughter of John Davis,
Esq. Mrs. Irvin was born in Kosciusko county, Indiana, received a good English education;
and is now the mother of one child, Merium Lucile, whose birth occurred on the 9th day of
October, 1900.
