Donna,
I have wondered who John's parents were--it says on the census they were JM
and Marian, where they were born, married, and where they died and are
buried--and who his brothers and sisters were. And who Delilah's parents
were, etc. All we know is that Delilah was born in VA in 1834 and that her
father was Jesse Payne. John & Delilah were married in 1850, but we are
not sure where. One cousin says that his grandmother told him that they
were marrried in IN near Terre Haute.
The one brother, George Philip Eberhart, joined John & Delilah and their
family when they moved to Allyn, Mason County, WA in the late 1880s. John
and George were influential in that town back then. When George Philip
joined the Civil War, he was living in Dallas, Illinois. On his Civil War
record it says the George was born in Sandusky, Ohio.
When John Eberhart, my GG Grandfather, joined the Civil War, he was living
in Buffalo, MO. We have a story in our family that he was born in PA, but I
think that he could have been born in Germany. I would love to know where.
Later on in the 1890s, John & Delilah moved back to MO (they had lived there
in the 1850s and 1860s) but in the 1890s, they moved to another county in
MO. George Philip who was married to Rebecca Gill and their family stayed
in WA and I am told by a great granddaugher in an e-mail that he died in
1909 in Allyn, WA and that Rebecca went to Tacoma to live then.
John & Delilah then moved back to WA in the 1900s, but went to live in Grays
County, WA where their daughers Florence and Rosie were living in Aberdeen,
WA. They died in WA and are buried in the Old Soldiers Cemetery in Retsil,
WA.
We don't have any information about Lewis (except we think that he was also
in the Civil War) And we don't have any information about their sisters,
except, we think that John's older sister, Anna Catherine married Jeremiah
Buffington and they settled in Mason County, WA also.
So, basically, where Eberharts were born, married, buried and any family
stories. We have a nice idea of John Eberhart's personality from family
stories from my grandmother and from 2 cousins grandmothers who were sister
and sister-in-law to John.
Thanks in advance,
edie
