Mrs. Barbara Ellen Millen, 78, native of Huntington county, died at 6 o’clock Thursday
morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Oren Wilke, 453 South Lafontaine street, with
whom she had made her home. Mrs. Millen had been in ailing health for three years, and had
been seriously ill two weeks.
Born February 17, 1860 to Jacob and Elizabeth Early, she moved to Missouri at the age of
18 where she lived for seven years. She was married March 10, 1884, in Missouri to Thomas
Millen, who died May 30, 1931. Mr. and Mrs. Millen made their home for 31 years in Clear
Creek township about three miles north of the city on the old Columbia city road, but
after the death of her husband, Mrs. Millen lived in this city with her daughter and son,
Oren Millen, Madison street.
She was a member of the Church of the Brethren since the age of 18, and was a charter
member of the Church of the Brethren in this city.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Wilke, and son, Oren Millen, survivors include five
grandchildren and six sisters; Mrs. Hester Mahugh, Barthold, N.D.; Mrs Catherine Baird,
Roann; Mrs. Betty Reece, Fair View, Mo.; Mrs. Lavina Peckober, Wichita, Kan.; Mrs. Maggie
Shoemaker, Wenatchee, Wash.; and Mrs. Lydia Moe, Bainville, Mont. A son, Martin is
deceased.
Friends may call at the Wike residence, 453 South Lafontaine street. Funeral services will
be conducted at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Church of the Brethren at the corner
of Guilford and East Washington streets. The Rev. Howard H. Keim, Jr., pastor, will
officiate. Interment will be in Pilgrim’s Rest cemetery.
