Hello--
I'm hoping you and/or your book on Huntington County might have some information on a
John W. Young, my great-grandfather, who fought in the Civil War as a drummer boy, came
from a family of farmers, and supposedly had several brothers. Like another Young you
posted information on--also a John, but with a different middle initial--he was supposedly
a lover of horses. John W's wife was Alice Pixley, from Attica, IN, and they had two
children who survived--Clarence, who later changed his name to Cyrus Harvey (Harvey being
a family surname) and Mame (a nickname for Mary?). A third child, Harry or Harold, died
and is buried with his mother in Attica. I've been told that after Alice Pixley's
death John W. took his surviving children to Huntington County (Fort Wayne, I think),
where they were raised. Clarence (Cyrus Harvey) grew up around horses, breaking them and
becoming an accomplished horseman (but I don't know whose horses they were!). I've
been told the family came to Indian!
a from Ohio, and ultimately from either New Jersey or Pennsylvania, but I don't know
much more, except that they were, I think, in Indiana before the Civil War.
Any information would be much appreciated!!!!
Martha Young
