The Warren Republican, Thursday, July 11, 1895
Death of May Cale.
May Emma, youngest child of Lemuel R. and Mary E, Cale, died July 4, 1895, aged nine
years, eight months and four days.
She was a great sufferer for over three weeks from brain fever and was conscious nearly
all the time. In life, little May, as she was called at home, was gentle, kind and
affectionate. Honest, upright and truthful she expected the same in others. For a child
of her age she possessed an unusual degree of refinement in speech and action. At school
she was bright and advanced beyond others of her age. The past year she studied hard in
order to rank first in her grade and be promoted. She was a regular attendant at the M.E.
Sunday school and said she was a Methodist. She was also an earnest advocate of the
temperance cause.
The soft golden hair has been brushed back from the white brow for the last time, the pale
little hands are still and the serrt spirit of the child has gone to paradise ere the
buffets of the wicked world have touched her slender feet.
Father, mother, one brother and two sisters are left to mourn the loss of a dear sweet
child and sister.
Funeral services were held at the M.E. church on Saturday at 1 p.m., attended by a large
congregation. The sermon was preached by Rev. H. Bridge, assisted by Rev. W.D. Samuel.
The pall bearers were Jessie Purviance, Mertic Leffler, Minnie Richardson, Ethel Simons,
Minnie Myers and Nora O'Neil. Interment was in Woodlawn.
