My maternal gr-gr-grandmother, Frances "Fanny" (Baker) Overholtz, a former
resident of Henry and/or Wayne Co is buried in the New Lisbon Cemetery in
New Lisbon, Henry, IN.
Fanny Overholtz was listed on the 1880 Federal Census but on the 1900
Federal Census her husband, Jonathan Overholtz, was listed as widowed.
Their cemetery monument lists these dates for Fanny:
December 25, 1831 September 28, 1892
I have never been able to find any death information for her in Henry Co,
IN.
Also, according to census information she could have been born in 1829,
1832, 1834,1835 or 1837. The inscription on her tombstone states she was
born in 1831.
But then there are other "strange" inscriptions on the monument.:
Their last name is spelled OVERHOLTS and everywhere else it is spelled
OVERHOLTZ.
Fanny's first name was spelled Francis instead of Frances.
Jonathan Overholtz died Sept 15, 1908. His funeral was held at the home of
his daughter, Mrs. Frank (Mary Ann) Rhodes, who lived northwest of town. I
believe they lived in Dudley Twp.
Another researcher recently shared this information concerning a Fanny
Overholtz
who died in Indianapolis, Marion, IN
"Here is the death information on a Fanny Overholtz"
died Jan 9, 1893 Indianapolis, Marion, IN
age 59 female white
County board of health, Indianapolis,
volume H-4 page 297
If this is my gg-grandmother, any suggestions as to the difference of the
death dates
from the Marion Co, IN records to what the family had inscribed on the
tombstone?
Could anyone direct me to funeral home records or newspaper obituaries for
that timeframe in Henry Co, IN
I believe they followed the Dunkard religion. Would there be any
information on church burials?
I look forward to any help in helping me solve these mysteries.
Thank you!!!
