Hello, Henry County Listers,
I have a copy of a death notice for my gr-gr-gr-grandmother, Sarah (Sally)
WERTS HUSTON, which was printed in the New Castle Courier of 28 Jan 1887, pg 8
C.1. The small portion of the page that I have contains items on a variety of
topics, about many other families; and I am posting them in the hope that they
might be useful to some of you on the list -- either now, or later in the
archive. These are not my families, so I don't have additional information
about any of them (except HUSTON). Anyone who wants to pass any or all of
these items on the other people or lists may do so. Joann Jameson, San
Leandro, CA
Mechanicsburg:
Miss Emma SOMMERS has returned to town and is with Mrs. N. R. ELLIOTT.
Geroge W. HOEL moved Tuesday to his farm in Madison county. The "Burg" loses a
good family.
James ELLISON has the contract for hauling and superintending the unloading of
the schoolhouse brick.
HENDRICKS Bros'. mill has thawed out, and they are now running twenty-four
hours per day, to make up lost time.
Charley MILLER has been worse again the past week, but he is supposed to be a
little better, and hope is entertained of his recovery.
Dr. PENDLETON and Charles REED are preparing to build dwellings in the
spring.. We understand MILLER, GINN & Co. have both contracts.
Mrs. HUSTON, mother of Rev. Asa HUSTON, died at an advanced age, Saturday, and
was interred in the cemetery here on Monday.
Dr. WEEKS started Sunday for the "Sunny South." He will spend the remainder of
the winter in Florida, fanning himself and eating oranges.
Sara KEESLING, L. M. KEESLING, and Curtis ELLIOTT, walk round arm in arm (rest
of item is cut off).
Messick:
Carl VANZANT still intends working in the mill this summer, if nothing happens.
John RUSSELL, who is visiting his brother Allan, talks of returning to Virginia
soon.
Milt STONER of Blountsville, was here Sunday visiting his brother, and returned
Monday.
Henry CRULL, a brother of Mrs. John YAUKY, was at H. C. YAUCKY's over Monday
night.
Rev. WILSON of the Christian church at Hillsboro, preaches the first Sunday in

The boys are preparing for another grand ball, in BOND's hall, Saturday

O. H. COOK and his bride partook of the neccessaries of life with Mrs.
LABOYTEAUX Monday, and are now fasting to more fully enjoy dinner Sunday with
his father.
The entertainment given by the band boys Saturday evening was a complete
success in every way, shape and form, and will greatly aid them in obtaining an
audience at any time in the future.
(Name of town cut off):
(First part of item cut off). ....and burial (cut off) sad occurrence. A
sister of the deceased, Mrs. LEDBETTER, of New Castle, was buried but three
weeks before Mrs. STONER, and her death taking place as it did, suddenly, far
from her early home, and altogether unexpected, made it a blow that was very
hard for her aged parents to bear. Her remains were accompanied here by Mr.
and Mrs. Jesse MENDENHALL, of Nebraska, besides her husband, and other
relatives of Des Moines, Iowa.
These items were from the first two columns of the bottem of page 8 C.1. It
cuts off just a few characters into the third column, and the following names
are within those few characters: CAGG, CASTLE, M. THURSTON, O. JOHNSTON.
Anyone researching researching those names might want to write to the Henry
County Historical Society for a full copy of the part of the page containing
those names. Their address in 1992 was 606 So. 14th St., New Castle, IN
47362. I don't know if it is still the same.
